PS Audio recommended using a preamp with the original DS. The description of the MK2 is different in this respect: "The ability to eliminate the preamplifier in the system without any resolution loss is a major benefit to DirectStream MK2's outstanding musical performance."

The original DS feeding amps directly sounded very nice in my setup. But the Mola MolaTambaqui is on a different level (but since Mola Mola amps were used, maybe not a fair comparison). Perhaps the MK2 closes the gap.
