Hi - honest question - Isn't it the same if you buy Elrog, Taki, Stradi, Cryotone and other 300B's?
I thought most people bought on how they sound, not what a company claims about the technology?
I have listened to them and compared them to the WE and others which tells me far more than what a company puts in its marketing pamphlet. I don't rely on companies to tell me how something will sound.
No. Excuse me.
Let's remember that, it's the manufacturer who claims to sell you two coupled tubes. Okay. Coupled for what? I want to know.
Just stating the anode current does not show great intelligence.
I need to know if I can use this pair of tubes in a pushpull.
In this case, the anode current, is also a useful but insufficient indicator. If the Gm's are very different from each other, the even-order distortions will only partially elide.
Even in a single ended if the two end tubes do not have similar dynamic parameters, you risk finding an imbalance between the two channels.
WE, which I own, attaches the parameters of the tubes you buy and other data ( and I was able to remeasure them and they are true ).
EML, which I have, states the Gm and I have been able to measure it.
Elrog, which I own has a low Gm for genetic reasons but Mayer is forthcoming.
Why won't the Chinese producers declare the parameters?
Sound ( especially in pushpull ) is made not only by the goodness of the devices and subjective aspects but also by the similarity between them.
If I pay for two matched tubes, the manufacturer has to show me how he did it.
Comparing end tubes with the same driver tubes could be misleading. Harmonic cancellation always lurking, could also make you make huge errors of judgment.
In summary, the data provided is not an indicator of tube quality. They are an indicator of the seriousness of the manufacturer.
