Record Brushes

I was wondering what everyone uses in the way of a brush to clean their records.

We have an AudioQuest, but it is only so-so. The Levin Design Dry Cleaning Brush is the one we settled on. It’s made in Germany using hand-pulled horse or Chinese goat’s hair.

I also have a relatively new Audioquest brush that does not work well. I just ordered a Hart audio based on Fremer's review.

Hopefully it works better getting dust and hair off records between wet cleaning.

I have used the Hunt EDA Mark 6 brush for a long time and it has served me well. I ordered the Ramar Berlin brush and will receive it this week. I'll be sure to report back.

What's important to remember is that any brush that doesn't provide for a conductive path for static electricity is useless. My favorite of all time unfortunately is no longer in production.....

Personally, I would be scared that one of those feathers would grab my cart in a mistaken moment … Opus1 bye-bye. So the Swifter won’t continue to collect dust when not in us what do you store it in?

microfibers aren't that flexible, you don't have to clean the record on the side of the tonearm
i store them in a freezer bag in the drawer near the turntable, really good resultats with the swiffer dust magnet

microfibers aren't that flexible, you don't have to clean the record on the side of the tonearm
i store them in a freezer bag in the drawer near the turntable, really good resultats with the swiffer dust magnet

Well that’s a given not to clean near the tonearm, but those are still long feathers. I’m thinking what if a feather releases from the handle, etc. And I have multiple tonearms. The freezer bag makes since though. Thanks.

I have been using the Ramar for the past 4 to 6 weeks. Generally it is a good product and functions as designed. The magnetic case is nice. And it looks good. Two cautions:

(i) The fibers are very soft; if you push too hard while holding the brush on an angle, it is easy to bump the corner of the handle onto the record.

(ii) It sheds. It seems that the shedding is settling down now but it will be important to watch out for stray hairs. The brush comes with a circular felt/corklike pad for cleaning the brush after use. It is a good idea to run the pad over the brush before use as well.

With ultrasonically cleaned records, I find I only need a light dusting of the record. I use a makeup brush.

no. what you want is negative ion's removing the static which releases the dust. a vacuum will create/increase static cling. the right natural bristle brush is a good compromise. but not perfect.
