REL No. 25

Great! Look forward to reading all about it!

Great! Look forward to reading all about it!
UPDATE: Ordered the G1 Mll pair in early July but they were sold out except for one which they shipped to Magnolia's Oklahoma warehouse and available new production not expected until eom September! It was opined that maybe with my large room that a pair of 212SX might be better BUT they would not be available until mid-September. REL is pretty much sold out of their reference level speakers!
REL sales manager/Paul Magee got involved at this point and wanted to discuss my system components, the room dimensions, music played, etc. and we sent him pictures of that to go over. Paul then conferred with John Hunter who believes a pair of 25s (again Jim Smith) would adequately match the X1s in performance and our room. There is 'one' pair of 25s available in inventory - I ordered them. Of course they give a 60 day trial, free shipping and both Paul and J. Hunter offered to come to our place to check setup of speakers and subs when Covid allows travel to dealers again. REL support is full and immediate which greatly influenced my decision to move up in cost and hopefully SQ. The local Magnolia dealer was behind me all the way - which helped a lot.
My wife said 'you'd better live a long time to enjoy them' ;)
So now I'm back to where we were a month ago with about a week for delivery and then a few days to break-in before beginning the tuning and placement issues. FUN though!

B-I-G news!...literally! Congrats! And yes, if you tell your wife that you will longer the more audio equipment you have...you might be on to something! If it works, let me know! ;)

That will be very interesting indeed to hear how it goes with the 25s...i cannot imagine you will be anything less than blown away. Particularly if Paul and John J come to setup...that is hugely beneficial no doubt. And yes, agree...when designers and manufacturers get directly involved to provide expertise, comfort and the 'full faith and credit' backing...it does in fact inspire many of us (certainly me) to invest more than we would have in the past without it.

"REL support is full and immediate which greatly influenced my decision to move up in cost and hopefully SQ." I totally disagree with REL being supportive. I currently have dual G1 MKII and I was considering NO. 25s. I emailed REL several weeks ago. Finally after two weeks I received an email from John Hunter asking for details on the rest of my system. He explained that he was very busy working on product development. I sent a response within minutes. To date I still haven't received a follow-up. Why spend so much money for such poor customer service.

I don't know of course - my experience for the last 6 months has been 180 degrees from yours. On line questions to REL tech Andrew and Jacob are answered within days and since my getting serious Western Sales Manager Paul answers within 24 hours all my concerns and offers to work via phone during setup with a personal call, after Covid passes, to my home if needed.
Again, I speak as to my situation and experience and not your own.

It's great that you're receiving outstanding support. Unfortunately, I can't say the same.

Congratulations! What did you hear as the contribution of the pair of REL 25 to your system?

Hi VPN,
First: they're not going back!
Next: The units are initially placed (squeezed) inside the WA X1s and on either side of the equipment rack - probably not optimal.
Break-in should be about 75% at this point but being impatient I've began trying to tune in with phase/CO/volume settings, without moving or rotating direction yet. The REL directions, and advice from Paul/Sales Mgr. is straight forward but I am struggling to get it to where it should be, IMO, and I am OCD. I continue to readjust those first 3 steps to improve but find dedicated time short now due to re-roofing and inside repairs to our home.
Excuses aside, My system sounds fuller, more coherent and defined in bass with mid-range having less of a strident edge we had not really noticed until now. It is a significant improvement but I just know it can be much better when/if I get it set up correctly and best within my room which is ~ 6K cu ft and rather open.
Paul Magee/REL promises to visit and help with that at a later date when Covid limitations allow visits to their dealers.
i'll post later when dialed in - In short I'm very happy with the 25s and may even get more one day.

Awesome...many congrats! And somehow from your description of the time you have been able to take to dial them in...you have some meaningful way yet to go which is also good news.

I think it's important for me to follow-up my last post. I have been going back and forth with REL for he past few months regarding REL setup procedures. I exchanged emails with John Hunter, tech support, and Paul Magee. Paul said once they hired someone for my region and Covid conditions were better the new person would visit me. A couple of days ago I received a call from Clay. He introduced himself as the new REL representative for my area. He told me he would be more than happy to visit and we discussed what day/time worked best. Today was my lucky day. Clay arrived at 3 PM. He started by removing my room treatment and tuning each speaker to the room. After the speakers were placed, he changed his focus to the proper integration of the G1 MKII subs. A little over three hours later his masterpiece was complete. WOW, WOW, WOW! My wife said she never heard our system sound so good. He was professional, personable, and very meticulous. I just thought it was important to thank everyone at REL for their commitment to customer satisfaction.

It is great of you to give credit where credit is due!

And by all accounts I personally have heard John Hunter is extremely professional and competent as well!

I recently purchased a REL No 25. I had to have it after hearing at another's house. The local dealer has the other REL models, and I've owned the small ones in the past. IMO, the No 25 is well worth the money.

In fact, I'd argue it's the best value in the entire REL line. I've heard a stacked array of the models below (which cost way more in total) yet still aren't as good.

The carbon fiber driver and sealed box design are ideal for my tastes... Deep, fast, controlled bass that puts most others to shame by a very large margin.

BTW, I'm not even a typical REL fanboy. I don't like their small subs...plus I find their high level input option has more negatives than positives.

Very good to know...

NO as there is not a REL dealer in Oklahoma with the nearest being in Kansas/Devo or Texas and neither were able to demo both on hand. Devo is offering a demo 212SE at discount if anyone is interested. I am now more interested in the 212SX vs. G Mkll. Likewise, I am unable to hear/compare those two but have queried REL Friday for their opinion/input and will probably have to trial them at home IF REL allows that with their Reference series. Devo might be willing when he is back open from Covid mess.
Hey dbeau, I am actually a dealer here in Oklahoma. It looks like you already purchased the Réal’s but never the less. We are in the process of picking up REL. Planning to pair them with a pair of Rockport Avior’s so not sure if we are going to get the No. 25’s or the G1’s yet. Absolutely check us out, I think we are the only 2 channel centric dealer in Oklahoma handling this level of product.

Hi JEFF,
Yes, several years ago you installed a TV for us and that was before we unpacked our system.
The RELs added significant improvements.
Now following streamer/DAC talk as it maybe next step OR stack another pair of RELs

Ah, nice. I actually just picked up an Aurender A30 streamer/Dac.. it’s absolutely amazing. If you want to hear it just say the word and I can bring it by for you to demo. You would be welcome to come here of course. I just placed the order for a pair of REL No.25’s this morning. Perhaps stacking them at your place to see what a 4 pack brings will be in order for the future :)

Let me know when you get the No 25's in the store ... will try to get up there to take a listen.

Thanks

George
