Roberta Flack RIP

Roberta Flack died last week at 88 y.o. Her first album, First Take, was made from all first takes. "The First Time Ever I saw Your Face" became a number one hit after it was in Clint Eastwood's film, "Play Misty for Me." Then her album "Killing Me Softly with His Song" won the Grammy for Record of the Year in 1974. She was an amazing talent. I have both albums as well as the Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway album on tape (15ips 2 track 1/2") . Larry

The PBS series American Masters did an excellent bio of her. I hadn't realized she was a Classical piano prodigy! That wasn't a very accessible career path for a someone of her gender/race at that time but we can be thankful her irrepressible talent shone too brightly to be ignored. I was a junior in HS when "The First Time..." started getting played on the radio. There was really nothing else quite like it.

I met her at work almost three years ago. She gave my co-worker and I, a free CD.

Wow, nice stories. In her album with Donny Hathaway, both she and Donny played the piano throughout the album and Roberta also played the organ in one of the songs. Even more amazing talent. Larry
