Why 80 watts as a lower limit? Have you calculated what SPL that will produce?I think about half the power of the JA100s is going too light. I think I don't want to go below 80 watts.
If I were open to 50 watts I would go right to Absolare SET.

If you ever felt so inclined, Ron, and the required modification to enable tube rolling is as simple as a different cathode resistor, a tech could (inexpensively) install a toggle switch or pair of switches to enable you to switch between kt150 mode and el34 mode easily.

At 80 JA100 watts, listening at 95 to 97 dB peaks, Don thinks he heard a little bit of running out of gas on Mahler's 3rd symphony.
Interesting. It is no only about peaks, if it is not driving it sufficiently the dynamic range will be getting compressed elsewhere.
Yes, this is the amplifier I thought Kedar was referring to. I have heard this amplifier.
Ron,
IMO an old used Jadis JA200 fitted with EL34's would be an excellent choice for your system. In Europe we sometimes can get them around 10k euros.
I completely agree! I would love to try JA200 Mk. IIs with the cathode resistors calibrated for EL34s.
Thank you, but whatever improvements were made in the Mk. II version and maybe later versions I definitely want those production upgrades.
Remember -- have to protect the RD75s in the Pendragons. Leaving the protection circuitry of the Siegfried IIs already makes me very nervous.
Just try some inexpensive EL34s and find out.I think about half the power of the JA100s is going too light. I think I don't want to go below 80 watts.

In most tube amplifiers, such as the Jadis, the RD75 are intrinsically protected by the amplifier output transformer, that blocks DC.
But if you are concerned with such aspects you should accept that the Jadis JA200 internals are a real mess, not comparable to the excellent and neat Siegfried II building quality:

Thank you for the thought, but for actual decisions I care only about in real life, in listening room impressions.
