Samsung enters the tube audio arena?

That's nice to know, Jack. Seed planted for the next generation. :)

Tom

Yup. Hopefully when they are older and more financially secure they can plant their roots they'll build systems aside from their portable cans and docks.

I suppose Samsung figured out why "anyone would match a tube with digital." No doubt concluding the "distortions of digital and solid state were a bad match." I assume they have a few engineers working for them and came to that conclusion using a liittle "math and a little logic":b
Good Morning Teresa

While you might think a tube lover would be happy about this, I am not. I would prefer that Samsung admit the short comings of those two products and apply this solutions to products at a price the average person can afford in in a convenient format. Preferably mobile.

Some above average Industrial Design if not Marketing to say the very least.

The system isn’t 100-percent tube amplified. It’s a hybrid system in which the vacuum tube is used as the pre-amplifier while the power amplifier uses digital technology, so the audio dock is able to maintain its slim body.

Thanks George.Looks good.

-- Yes indeed, very beautiful looking.

Samsung has some very strong points, but 'customer support' ain't one of them (they don't invest on that very important aspect of the business).

And don't forget here; they make several products, in all sections of the latest technologies.

Yes, it is a south Korean company, and far far far away from solider companies like Oppo (China) for example.

Good evening to you, Bob. You have me wondering if you have something against Samsung as IIRC, you have mentioned about the lack of software support/updates and now you mention customer support. I don't have very many Samsung products but the ones I do possess have worked flawlessly since the day I have purchased them. Please understand that I'm not confronting....just curious is all.

---- I own several Samsung products. And I explored all of them very extensively.
So yes, I know some' about Samsung, and don't read more than there is into my posts Tom.

I love this world, and that's why I love to talk about the truth that I see in it. I'm all in for improvements.

Now that you're here, I just want to mention this very quick:
1. I disagree with the thread recently closed.
2. I'm having an issue at one of my local libraries, and you didn't answer my earlier question.

Happy Holidays.

Ah, I saw your question earlier but I do believe that something of that nature should be discussed offline as to not detract from the original topic of this thread. As far as the closed thread goes, as part of the Terms of Service of this forum, this is not up for debate. The management team will determine whether the thread will remain closed or not.

Back to Samsung....I was just curious. You seem to be all about the Oppo brand which I'm not personally a big fan of [my preference] but somewhat negative about the Samsung brand which I have no issues with and do happen to prefer [again, just my own preference]. I do apologize if it seems that I am looking into your posts more than I should. I was simply curious.

Tom

-- I just counted them, I own fourteen Samsung products that I'm aware of right now in my home.

* Also I must have been in contact (phone) with Samsung's customer service department for more than fifty times in the last five years or so.

Tom, I'm not a fan of any particular brands but the ones that are solid, from beginning to end, including manufacturer's support for their customers, and also technical support from intelligent staff people of the company for which they work for.

Nowadays we live in a constant world of new firmware upgrades (because of several reasons; Hollywood paranoia among them and too fast 'quick releases' of products in this extremely competitive world) and that is a very important point of our final purchases.
And forums are great to be much more informed people.

I'm sorry to hear of this and I certainly hope my experiences don't mimic yours. Yikes!

Fair enough. Thanks for answering Bob. Like I said, I was just curious. :)

I just remembered that my brother in law moved from Sony to Samsung. Right before the mutha of all storms hit the northern eastern states at that. I'm not a big Samsung fan but my bro is one of my favorite people in the world. I'll pass this on to him. I believe he handles the consumer IT products though.

Hi Ron, welcome to WBF! Nice moniker, "bachrocks". I love Bach as well, perhaps we can have some nice chats in the Classical subforum of WBF :)

Thank you for the warm welcome Keith :)
When I was in high school of college--can't remember exactly as it was so long ago--the local classical radio station in Baltimore, Maryland had a contest to come up with a slogan for their station. I thought and though to myself and came up with "Bachrocks". I never submitted it but remembered it when the Internet was created and I needed user names for sites. I'll have a look at the music forum and see if there's anything I might contribute.

thanks,
ron

-- Hi Ron, and welcome! :b

Huge Bach's music fan here. ...Rock; that too, on occasions. ...Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, ELP, Jethro Tull, Yes, Queen, King Crimson, Santana, The Rolling Stones, Genesis, Gentle Giant, ...

Bob

in my turn in sales, I sold Samsung's higher lines of TVs an BR players. They were among the most unreliable brands in the store, and high one industrial design, medium on performance from the get-go. Uber bright candy colors and super-thin screens. But not the best stuff by any stretch of the imagination. That's what I've got against them. A couple preamp tubes stuck in an iPod dock is just amusing. But, as with all things Samsung, very attractive.

Tim

I have one of Samsung's higher line of 55" LED tvs that is now a few years old. I thought it looked great when I bought, and I still think it looks great. It has also worked perfectly. As for Samsung putting tubes in a piece of audio gear, that remains to be seen if it will be successful in the marketplace. My gut feeling is that the tubes will scare more buyers off than it will attract. I will give them credit for having the balls to use vacuum tubes in a commerical product meant for the mainstream marketplace.

Thanks for the warm welcome, Bob :)

I think we have similar tastes, not confined to any one genre. Most of the groups you mentioned have profoundly affected me, and I believe their music is totally brilliant. All have contributed immeasurably to my emotional development. Listening to Pink Floyd's WYWH in my $60/month room in Newark, Delaware the year after my college graduation, wow... Jamming and partying to Zeppelin's "When the Levee Breaks" in my Baltimore apartment after leaving Japan with someone in 1994, mind blowing... Black Sabbath back in High school during the late 70's with my best friend and neighbor, walking down our dark neighborhood streets with a bottle of Boone's Farm wine, cheers...Just lying in bed listening to Court of the Crimson King for hours, far out...and to finish off the story, remembering the used flute I once bought because of Jethro Tull and his aqualung and for the life of me couldn't learn to play.

-- Great post Ron, from memory alley. :b

Me too I have a lot of great souvenirs listening to all these bands, and seen some of them live too.

But furthermore, a lot of Rock music is inspired by Classical music, and Bach in particular.
I won't give you examples here because I know that you know that (ELP, Jethro Tull, King Crimson, Soft Machine, YES, etc.), and the Blues too (Mississippi, and Africa). ...The Rolling Stones are big on Blues.

I learned (self-taught) to play the steel flute (soprano and alto) when I was about thirteen-fourteen years old. I still play on occasions, and used to jam a lot with other musicians.

Some of my very first LPs were Classical music, and by all the great composers, and Bach was and still is my favorite. But I also love Beethoven, Chopin, Mozart, and all.

Rock music has Classical influences written all over. :b
