SET amp owners thread

Yes I will look into that! Has had a number of requests for a video/sound recording of the system but not sure how to do this in a quality that makes sense… (not just showing the limitations of my iPhone).
I friend has both the C1 and the F25. Uses the C1 to find the best crossover poind in order to get the right FB. The C1 is very flexible but the F25 is just on a different level in sound quality.
I expect to receive used F25 on next Monday.

If I do not like the sound out of it, I can return it within 2 weeks.

Thus I will have chance to compare between F25 and Pap C1. :)

If I like F25, I will keep it.

Will you have the desired/needed FBs with F25?

Hello Norway

Does F25 have any internal fuse?

If so, could you let me know the size and amperage of fuse so that I can order high end fuse for it?

thanks in advance.

Thomas
I asume it has, but very internal and not easy accessible. It’s quite a job to get the lid off and get into the power supply.

It seems a nice update for that would be to install the fuse on the rear panel. The only reason I can think of having a fuse internal like that would be if when the fuse blew, it means for certain that the product needs repair. That is a very hard thing to guarantee since fuses can fail on their own given enough time.

I have had Accuphase DG28 equalizer since 2000.

But I had not changed any fuse during last 20 years.

Accuphase is more reliable than any electronic makers in the world.

But I agree with you that it is better design to change fuse in the rear panel just in case.

While I like your comment I simply don't agree that the manufacturer of the most reliable electronics in the world is somehow Accuphase, although their stuff is well built. That comment seems a bit of hyperbole :)

;)

Maybe but from my audio experience of more than 40 years, it must be at least one of the most reliable makers.

Certainly! I have Tascam, Otari and Dynaco (FM-5; actually dates from the 1970s) equipment that is similar age and been quite reliable. When it gets old enough I make sure to get the filter capacitors in the power supplies (at the very least) replaced to insure reliability. FWIW in my band I play two synthesizers (EML101 and Prophet 5) that are now about 50 and 40 years respectively.

Reliability is a function of engineering, WRT how components make heat and how they age. IME if the product can make 30 years that's about the best you can expect before the filter caps are shot.

I got Accuphase F25 half hour ago.

You gentlemen are point on.

Although Pap C1 is pretty good, Accuphase F25 is in another league.

After it fully get warmed up, I will upload the video.

It sounds fuller overall with more musicality.

Thanks a lot Mr Norway for letting me know Accuphase F25.

It sounds relaxed and musical using F25.

It is hard belive that this crossover is 30 years old almost vintage.

I have tried both the Pass XVR-1 and now have the F-25. I would put both in the same league! (a very small league as rhere is just not very many high-end analogue XOs!).

Pass Labs XVR-1 is infinitely more flexible and adjustable

I am quite happy with F25 which give very musical sound.

But I had never tried Pass XVR1.

Maybe I will not try Pass XVR1 in the future since I am rather disappointed with Pap C1

Try a tube crossover as a completely different approach...or digital..that Accuphase digital is nice if you want to spend some bucks or a mini-DSP nano-digi and a couple of affordable DACs of good quality works VERY well.

I have the nano-digi now but am considering the Marchand X126 tube crossover (with external power supply...they have a cheaper version as well).

No matter how powerful and cost effective digital /DSP filters are they still represent an extra AD/DA conversion. I don’t think this will be an attractive proposition for an owner of a pure analog system or anyone with a top notch high-end DA converter.
