That's pretty cool, but cranking Ian Gillan singing Weber's passion of Jesus Christ Superstar on a great system can be a pretty transcendental experience too.
Yes, it is a great opera and a great recording. A great cast, but currentlt my favorite perfomer in this recording is Murray Head.
It would be great to have a high quality digital version of this work.

There is a high quality version of this album, Al M. found it. In fact it betters any analog version that I've ever heard (and I've bought many, all of them very hard to listen to).

Jesus Christ Superstar was one of my first albums (double LP) in my teens. It had a strong impact @ that time that helped me in my transition to Classical music.

(Don't worry, it doesn't come with the "price check" sticker, but it really is that cheap. It's Amazon UK, amazon.com doesn't carry it.)
It beats both the other two digital versions that Madfloyd and I own by a mile since it sounds much more natural, without the constant digititis inducing high-frequency tilt. And indeed, also in my opinion it betters the LPs -- while it doesn't get rid of some of the problems that also plague the LP versions but are somewhat ameliorated or suppressed there by the equalizing; they are obviously on the original master tape.
I got the recommendation from the Steve Hoffmann forum, and it was spot on.
