Speaker (and for that matter, electronics) Preferences

I have really enjoyed my speaker progression over the years. I always listen to my dealers and then research as much as possible. I bought my newest pair based on my friend and mentor Mike Shliminski of Precision A/V. I bought a pair of Venture Audio CR-8 Signatures sight unseen, and when I took them home, I instantly fell in love with them, and over the 1.5 years, enjoy them more and more. Previously, I bought a new pair of B&W Diamond 802. I sold them within 3 months. It is impractical for me to lug 200lbs speakers to my home for a demo, and equally hard to bring my whole system to a dealer. So, as I mentioned, I rely on several dealer's opinion, research, research and research. I also read as many reviews as possible, trying to read between the lines. But generally, I can tell pretty soon if I like a speaker or not, as long as it is not brand new (low hours).

If I understand Myles correctly, given his references to biology and the pre-frontal cortex, then high-end loudspeaker manufacturers are doing some pretty advanced cognitive studies these days.

Right.

I guess we shouldn't think out of the box, huh?

who is bashing science? not me. science is used for every product and every piece of media.

but the purpose of science is to further the art, but not to define it. that is an exclusively human right.

so the final arbitur of correctness is our perceptions. not science.

Well said. You look at the grass. But it isn't really green. The surface of grass absorbs all the colored light rays, except for those corresponding to green, and reflect this color to the human eye. The eye receives the reflected green light and sends a message to the brain. YOU EXPERIENCE GREEN! Likewise with music. The sound waves hit your ears, but you EXPERIENCE BEETHOVEN!

Well i went today to the 2 shows , and after that i went to beach the weather is awesome.:D

i listened to kharma exquisite ref series, kharma sub , kharma ref amps soulution cd player
second set kharma db 7 on arc ref series , all cd demos .

next wilson audio sasha on ml 326 s 532h and a linn computer player , streaming what ever .

opinions : kharma has very high resolution certainly more than wilson , the wilson tweeter is not the end in tweeter design .
fit and finish is first class whith both companies

i didnt hear wilson and ML in quite a while , and i dont think there is much progression there , i dont think i will trade my current system for ML either , my system has progressed quite nicely .
My personal source is on another level .
Integration of subs is still rather compiclated , no matter the price .

Plus : ..... i dont have to invest anymore in audio , i have arrived :D

On the want list still though ,....a nice tape machine with good tapes

Ps i would still never spend more than 300 euro on a cd /dvd/ blue ray player and also no more than that on cabling:D

^ andromedaaudio, thanks for "beach report".:) Nice to hear the big boys are still using CDs at the European shows.

No problemo :D
One more thing if i was on the market for speakers , i would buy magico V3s second hand , the best i have heard in the 20 30000 euro range it has coherence resolution and a warm midband
secondly kharma crm 1.2 diamond enigma 3 way system which has more resolution than avalon and wilson and has better coherence(integration) than some of the more expensive kharmas i have heard, the kharma did throw also a very big soundstage but put the image quite far behind the speakers

Andromedaaudio,
As you live in Europe, you should listen to the Sonus Faber Amati Futura. I hosted it for a few days while waiting for the Aida's and was very impressed. A few friends who listened to them in my system were even more impressed! At this side of the Atlantic it is a bargain!

I'm running Legacy Audio's Helix. 3,500 watts per channel of amplification. I use three Coda amps, 2 CS and one CSX amps: one CX for the mid bass, one CX for the mid range, and one CSX for the treble. The built in subwoofers are 1,000 watt ice amps. All that power is not used to play the system loudly, (of course it will play at live levels!) but is used to have enough power to resolve anything the source material can throw at them. The dynamics and speed are incredible. They resolve details at low and high volumes. This speaker has he ability to reproduce a baby's breath or shake the room with the sound of thunder and lightening cracking. If you ever comr to the St.Louis area let me know and you can stop by for a listen.
The Coda electronics are what Bill Duddleston uses to design his speakers.
They sound as coherent and 3d as Magnepan's best with bass and unlimited power and grace.

I did a couple of times at dealersdemos , nice styling and nice for chambermusic , classical music , i found them a bit warm and slow , i havent heard the latest version and my opinion is just based on a couple of shop demos , if i get the chance i ll go listen again .
Thanks , but I dont need them, i am making something now that will be an endgame speakerproduct regardless off price , before the end off the year they are ready , probably sooner :D

Listen to a violin, then decide

If one takes the Shannon entropy seriously, then it is obvious that no chain of hi if devices can, even in principle, capture all of the information in a musical performance. One way to decide about the relative merits of an entire system by seeing how close it comes to reproducing the sound of a violin played midway between the speakers. That's it.
