There are quit a few honest / fair knowledge able dealers out there as well .
Most are in it because its a hobby /interest of them .
I doubt you ll go in the audio business to only make money .
A few fast start ups may be , but not people who are in the bisiness already a long time.
Where a lot ( not all) derive their opinion of is magazines .
And carry a product line from there , but not all off course .
Play it safe so to say which is understandable

I've had the Ayre in the store as trade-ins, and they were able to play the big Sonjas just fine. I remember we kept them in the main system for a while, and demonstrated to many clients. Had the matching preamp as well.

I, obviously, prefer the D'Agostinos, but the Ayre were never straining.

to add to this question, are there any genres they do better than others. would you reccomend them as all rounders esp for modern music (it's a question i've had about all horns - one day i'll get to hear a great pair)

I have upgraded my amps 4 times and am finally happy with the Mx-r twenty which are no slouch at 300 w/channel at 8 ohms . 600 plus at 4.
I went through Parasound jc-1, krell duo 300 xd, dandagastino momentum monoblocks ( lots of oomph) and finally settled on the ayre . The best solid state amp I have ever auditioned . Amazing tone , zero feedback double diamond output . So I am not changing my amps as there are none better out there in my opinion a valve like magic to their tone .
The guys in yg use the dan dagastino in their main room but most of them use ayre in their home system with yg speakers . They love it .
So the yg seems to be a winner so far .
I am going to listen to yg in their factory and they said they could ship my amps to listen with the yga.
The concept of horn speakers are intriguing to me based on the fact they have superb micro and macro dynamics. And that i may not need so much room treatment.
I am based off Cleveland.

great to hear, while i obviously feel differently about the symphonic line, i know what it's like to feel like you've got an amp or any other piece as "nothing better out there". i think the ayre can deliver on the wattage but i'm skeptical overall BUT hearing that others use the pairing, it clearly works. in that case, i think the sonjas (or even the m series magicos) should be driven quite effectively by them

Horns are the best for classical, jazz and rock. Check out Tang's thread for classical videos on horns, and the new rock and drums video thread for horns. Try playing similar on your system, record it on your mobile, and play it back. While playing back listen through headphones or stream to a small Sonos like speaker. You will get sufficient differences. And yes, there are a lot of awful horns out there too

Looking for sealed full range speakers , to play with my jl audio subs.
My short list are magico m3 and yg Acoustics sonja 2.3.
That’s the price range I am looking at .
I listen to vocal music , country , jazz, pop and rock .

I would choose Magico M3. If they dont work with Ayre, you can go down PeterA's proven effective path. Second hand PassLab should give good value. The Boston boys can give you short cut in learning curve with Magico and subs.

Yes, tremendous speaker, should be capable of filling that rather large room. Great suggestion.

Might be better for that room than M3, and is cheaper used than that speaker.

Used M project plus Q sub about the price of an M3 with M pods. This would be a great combination in that large room of yours but I don’t know about your current application with those Magico speakers.

You're intrigued by the concept of horn speakers, and I'm intrigued by that incredible room you have.

We both know that what I build doesn't meet your criteria, but now I WISH that I had an easily-shippable high-quality horn speaker which you could try JUST to see if horns really are a direction worth pursuing. Unfortunately "easily shippable" and "high-quality horn speaker" don't normally go together.

They are good for the audiophile sound. Better than Pass X line and more SS-sounding than the soft -sounding Pass XA line, but Ayre would fix the tubby Pass XA bass. Snootier audiophiles go with D'Agostino over Ayre for that type of sound.

It's the kind of audiophile sound that John Atkinson likes. He features Ayre in Stereophile frequently. Jason - Victor Sirinoise likes that type of sound also. If TAS/ Valin and Ayre didn't have their spat (per the VAC amplifier thread), Harley would also feature them frequently.

To answer your question: Not many! Most suck and most are filthy, disgusting scum.

Look, this is a subjective hobby. People imagine all kinds of things inside their heads. The guy I'm talking to is not the guy who has been reading Stereophile for the last 20 or more years and learned that type sound. But it's the guy who likes music more than the audiophile vocabulary.

They are rare but they do exist. For that type of guy: I have had A LOT of stuff in my house over the years and don't want him carrying heavy shIt if they don't need to.
