Star Wars: The Force Awakens - Black Friday Trailer 2015

I am sorry but both trailers look dreadful. The last 3 movies were dreck, actually the last for if you included ROTJ. Could Harrison Ford look any more disinterested? I have lost some faith in JJ as well after the last Star Trek film. Not anticipating this one in the least. And the lightsaber in the shape of a cross. Really???????

+1. Wish they had an entire new cast.

Unless Hollywood comes up with a new idea, which seems highly unlikely (and very sad), we'll continue to be at the mercy of lazy money-grabbing hacks. Where are the Citizen Kane's? Where is the next African Queen or Lawrence of Arabia? Hollywood used to know how to make movies.....

Nah, I bet that's not going to be the problem with this movie. I see a lot of unknown names, just like on the prequels (the kid, the mom, etc...)
I mean, can't they get decent actors for f***** Star Wars?

Think about the original -- it's not something they want names for in general; don't want personas attached to the characters.

I'm with you there. The Harry Potter series had a bunch of good actors and did quite well.

Not sure I agree .

The present Star Wars discussion should not make us forget some extremely good movies that have been coming out. There has been somegreat movies out there. One can always debate their worth with respect to the great Classic you mentioned.

Star Wars captured an entire generation and has been after the original Trilogy a money-making crassly commercial enterprise. I admit to enjoy it. When one pauses and thinks about it, even the Trilogy wasn't that good but Boy! Did I enjoy these 3 movies! :)

I just think that Hollywood could do so much better and provide the movie-going public with something other than an endless parade of weak films to cash in on the popularity of the original. It's boring and uninteresting. There have been some great movies in recent years to be sure, but not nearly enough IMO. They remain the exception and that's sad. If I never see Star Wars again or another movie about a comic book hero I'd not be disappointed.

I don't disagree with much of what you say. The studio system now is blockbuster driven. We're not really the intended audience for most of it -- this is the vacuum HBO and others have filled. It's worth noting though that Star Wars was originally mapped as three trilogies. Don't know how the upcoming one follows that map, but that was the plan.

the success for the next Star Wars is going to be interesting- as many millennials never saw the originals. at least they got JJ for it though. the first Lucas reboot was for Gen X and prior and despite the first 1.9 movies being wretched, they scored at the box office.

Johnny- i quit seeing superhero-type movies after the last Batman as its the same story every time and just about effects- its amazing how few summer movies there are now to actually see.

Speaking of Trilogies, has anybody noticed that there seems to be no buzz at all for The Hobbit considering the last installment is right around the corner?

Me too! I also gave up in one of those early Batman movies, I think the 1st with Christian Bale.
One thing I noticed when I watched again the original Star Wars movies is that the pace was generally slower than the newer trilogy. Not only that, the action scenes was zippier as well. I guess the editing now is making everything too fast to follow...
I've had a memory that the florest racing scenes in Endor (with the Ewoks) in Return of the Jedi were FAST. I watched them again and they're downright choppy next to the fast editing of the new movies.

I've always liked the Batman movies more than Star Wars, but gave up on them as well for the very reasons KeithR cited. I was disappointed when Michael Keaton didn't reprise his role, but using a different lead actor was interesting and gave each movie a slightly different feel. And while I like Christian Bale as an actor, they shouldn't have given him another shot.

Steve - this is a Star Wars thread and I'm sorry that it has taken on some diversion. A good idea might be to create a thread on sequals, prequals, etc.
