Streamer to kill the big boys for under $250

Yes because he actually wanted to sell some copies. Very few people run Linux as their main OS. I'm not going to have this argument because I already know what he prefers. I've had several conversations with him about this.

Haha. If he wants to sell copies, he should put out Mac version much earlier. When I first asked me to do Mac version few years ago, he refused. He only did it much later because many guys in Computer Audiophile using Mac request Mac version. Don't pretend you are expert on HQPlayer. If anyone wants to get more info from HQPlayer, one should go to Computer Audiophile. The author of HQPlayer will answer any questions and very helpful.

Well there's different types of information available in the world. Information intended for acceptance from the masses, and information based on your own personal beliefs. Sometimes going with option #1 can be more lucrative. The majority of the audience on CA, prefers option #1 over option # 2. Jussi learned this early on with his time spent on CA.

Anyways if you can get him to say he prefers Windows to Linux for HQplayer publicly on CA, I'll send you a wire transfer of $1000 USD.

For one thing, CUDA GPU offloading is so far only available for Windows version. Tell me your definition of preferring. If it is in terms of cost of OS, everybody prefers Linux as it is free. If one thinks of cutting edge development of HQPlayer, it is always in Windows.

Personally I prefer the opinion from the creator of HQplayer. He uses HQplayer embedded for his own personal use. Is there an
Windows version of that? You're putting way too much weight on this Cuda offloading. The advantages only matter to those who don't have enough power to handle the processing they are attempting with the setup they currently have.

Besides this is one of the comments he said about it earlier today on CA:

"CUDA is the only one that works decently on all three platforms, although Macs are a bit tricky on that front because Apple has been using all three GPU brands on their products and obviously those cannot be changed or extended because they don't make machines with PCIe slots anymore. Apple's newest lineup seems to be Intel and AMD graphics (cheaper?)."

Yes, the SG guys tell me that the graphics card advancement is the most exciting new discovery in up conversion. Dwarfing many CPUs in raw computing power.

Is it ready now?

Almost. Just need a few minor tweaks for Airplay. But need to wait till Piero wakes up. For some reason Italians need to sleep :)

Anyways hosting on Google brought the 6.6gb image download from 6-7 hours to 10 minutes.

There is more processing power in the GPU but it comes at a cost. You have to shuffle data to and from it. That overhead can sharply reduce or negate the advantage of GPU. There can also be accuracy issues in GPU offloading. So whether it can or cannot be an advantage needs to evaluated in a case by case basis.

Who's the SG guys? Not everyone knows your secret code talk :)

you are one to talk, you throw 'secret code talk' out more than anyone.....

there ought to be a rule about acronyms.......with every one used 20% of the participants/lurkers drop off. so hard to keep up with all the arcane meanings.

I try to only use acronyms for well known things like CPU's etc. I usually explain quite clearly what I'm talking about. The problem lies when people just skim without reading the content.

Anyways a good rule of thumb when it comes to my posts is, I'm talking about something that makes good sound. And if you try it, you'll probably agree whether you understand how it works or not.

Popular thread with full attendance, and if a term is not understood, Mike will explain it no problemo. Just ask, because Mike has always answered any question with the best answer.
It's not about imposing a rule that suits only one person, it's not about guessing who is learning or not, it's not about the poster, it's about the streamer that screams value.

Mike and Mike, two of the best guys around. :b

Thanks for the post! Won't be long till we have some listening impressions :)

SG=Sound Galleries! DUH.

LoL

Thay have done all this dual PC NAA/LPSU/ FMC stuff before Munich and moved on.

For the record, FMC is fibre media converter and LPSU is linear power supply unit.
NAA has already been clarified as Network audio adapter.

some of these techie threads move at warp 9 and it's a lot of work to keep up for some of us. I do respect that your intent is better sound. I suppose dumbing them down is not the way to go either. the 'collective' simply needs to get up to speed.

No, Blizz needs to dumb it down sometimes, especially when he sees some posters thrashing around. I myself has to rescue one or 2 from the inundation.

It would be great if you had a dynamic acronym list at post 1 - several times I misunderstood your post because of acronyms. Even using google ...
And yes. it is really moving at warp 9!

Have they done it with this same hardware? Not that I've ever read on CA.

I can see what they are up to and to me looks like a waste of money. I wouldn't spend any more than what this streamer costs for USB DAC's. I2S may be a different story but you must have an I2S compatible DAC for that, and still the Pink Faun board isn't even DSD compatible.

If the technical details aren't for you, all you need to know is:

1: Plug box into power adapter
2: Plug USB stick into front USB port
3: Attach Ethernet cable to rear port, and other end into router
4: Attach USB cable into rear port, and other end into DAC
5: Connect to the Network Audio Adapter in Hqplayer running on another computer/server on the same network. Could be in office or anywhere.
6: Enjoy the best sound you've heard yet from you're GG.

That's about as dumbed down as I can make it, and the only details you need.

Everytime I use an acronym I explain it first. All the details moving at warp 9 are not for everyone anyways. See last post for all that really matters to the end user. I've designed this system to work flawless and easy even for someone who's never laid eyes on a computer in his life.

No harder to setup than any other commercial streamer out there.
