The best State or region for Audiophile

The most safe area in US immune to natural disaster is Arizona.

Little risk of earthquake, hurricane or tornado.

It also has a decent high end shops around Phoenix.

But it is too hot during summer to enjoy music.

Thus it is not the best state for audiophile although it is good to live for retiree.


Some people over there use Class D amplifier during summer time.


It is good to be audiophile in wet weather or cold one like Chicago since you tend to stay inside.

England is also good for audiophile in the sense.

I would rather do outdoor activities in sunshine states than staying inside.

With enough rain, BC Canada, Washington State, Oregon, Idaho have stable supply of hydro electricity.

But who knows, if drought come, the situation can change.

What is the worst State or region for Audiophile? ...Hurricane Alley?

My take of worst region for audiophile is Southern California.

Electricity and housing costs are expensive over there.

Property tax and state income tax also make living there expensive.


There is also high danger of earthquake which can ruin your audio system.

It is also pretty hot during summertime not good for using Class A amplifiers.


The weather is so good to do outdoor activities and do surfing on the beaches.

Why you want to stay inside listening to music in Southern California.

As an avid audiophile, it is the last place to move to.


My son got master degree in Engineering from UCLA, I do not mind visiting there for few days from time to time but I will not take permanent residence there period.

I had lived in Bay Area for 6 and 1/2 years during 1980's.

It was not that hot during summer except few days of Indian summer.

It also rained often during winter.

I had enjoyed living there.

The only problem is that the cost of housing and electricity is pretty high now.

I would say LA because of it's incredible resources for audiophilia AND live music, except for the living in your car part. I would rather listen to music rather than the inevitable hours spent sitting in cars in SoCal. If you had a good listening space and didn't have to compete for every square inch of space, and could stay in a local area without traveling a lot, that would be OK.

New York would also be good because of incredible resources, but you have the space and proximity restrictions which would require higher orders of wealth just to have a good space to listen.

The Bay Area is a nice compromise in terms of audiophile resources, weather, and mobility without the LA freeway berzerkers, though the Bay Area is catching up in that regard.

The Pac Northwest is probably similar to the Bay Area, with even greater natural beauty but the months of gloom.

There was a guy who used to frequent the Apogee group. He bought a whole school with many separate buildings(abandoned) for peanuts in the Great Plains of Canada and set up many large spaces with stereo systems and Apogees. Maybe he had the best spot of all, especially with those long winters with nothing to do but listen.
