The Digital Director - A new MSB product improving everything from the source to the output

The addition of the Digital Director is critical to the final results.
Stunning!

Thanks Daniel.

I'm a very happy user of the Premier DAC and the DD will come. I really am, but if I may please, the only thing I wished for, and good to see this happens with the Cascade, is that the standard power DC cables between the Powerbase and the DAC and these "Synology" connectors would have ben of better quality. Maybe already to the level of the Reference. I have after-market DC cables a the difference is clearly audible, but don't dare to change the "Synology" connectors though....

Cheers.
I hear you... you wouldn't believe the amount of time we spend on this topic. Being shared with the Discrete DAC, there were budget limitations, but whatever comes next will definitely be improved. I know what we have doesn't look like much, but it is actually very good quality custom made cabling. But rest assured, your feedback has been registered with the designer ;)

Thanks Daniel, appreciate the feedback.

You made me curious with "whatever comes next".

I stay tuned ;)

I wouldn't wait up just yet ;)

We are DEEP in the Sentinel design right now. That is a 1-2 year project to get to market. It is going to be WILD and fun. With announcing this early before release, we should be able to post updates as we hit some milestones.

Im the owner of a Discrete dac with pro USB and dual power supplies. I havent seen anyone on here going for the DD who owns a Discrete.
Happy to hear on peoples thoughts on why that is or if there actually is someone with that

I’m sure everyone’s use case is different. I know the DD made a very palpable improvement in my Premier DAC system. Some from a more powerful control processor (outboard from the DAC), and some from the new optical separation between the Renderer V2 and the DAC.

If you are already using the ProUSB, I can’t comment on whether the DD would actually help your system. The cost of a DD would be close enough to making the upgrade from Discrete to Premier DAC (which now comes with Premier Power Base, and upgraded clock module) which probably would be the better upgrade, if you are spending that kind of $. Consider exploring that path with your dealer, and I do see Premier DACs come up for sale from time to time.

There isn't a Discrete Digital Director. You have Premier, Reference, and Select Directors.

Totally agree.

@jeffro I just did a quick search and found a few used Premiers DACs. Also not sure how far you want to stretch the budget but you can also get used Reference DACs at some low prices.

Yes but i thought the Premier DD would work with the Discrete Dac. I must be wrong there. Ok, might look at Premier Dac instead. Thanks!

I just perused the MSB Tech site. The DD is not part of the Discrete page, but on the product support page for the Discrete it shows the DD. The Discrete does have the 2 module bays needed for DD use. I would email MSB Tech, but I figure it will work if you want.

But the DD costs more than the Discrete DAC itself. At MSRP levels the Discrete + DD is very similar to the price of the Premier DAC. You can always add DD later.

Thanks for the help guys, appreciated. You are most likely correct in that I should probably go for a Premier dac instead, it makes sense but geez it would be interesting to see what would "win" soundwise.....Discrete with DD or Premier?

If I remember well according to MSB trade-in policy, you can replace a Discrete with a Premiere OR a DD with another superior DD. It means that DAC to DAC upgrade pays you a better value for your used device.
You can add the DD and update the DAC later, but in your shoes I’d prefer to upgrade the DAC and adding the DD later. Things can quickly change in this market…
