Trinity DAC

I sincerely hope PS audio has finally pulled of the feat of making a completely source agnostic DAC. I absolutely hate the idea of spending inordinate amount of money to feed bits (that will be reclocked) into a buffer. It never made any sense to me.

Let's hope for both of us. And if it's close but not as good what then ? Hahaha I am Hoping it's close as I have two homes and an office and I really cannot afford three MSB,S unless they are all used . So edorr are selling yours if the direct stream is fantastic ?

Yes. even if it is just close enough the MSB is out and here is why. I have $20k into my MSB. If I decide to go with PS audio, I'll probably take a $5K hit. However, if PS audio really changed the price performance equation in DAC other will soon follow, and the MSB will be worth $5K two years from now. In this scenario, the sooner I resell it the better. So for me this is not just about the absolute SQ, but also about the economics of owning a DAC. If the MSB is materially better than the PS Audio, I'll keep it though.

Agreed. Thay have used laptop, but that is just a starting point and should be treated as such. Going with a simple CAPS v3 server with quality power supply (battery or Teddy Pardo/Hynes variety) already brings considerable improvement over laptop or Aurender S10.

Adam,

Now that I have tried all of the "high end" USB cards, including SOTM, Pang V1 and the new JCAT I think the new JCAT is the winner. I have two Caps Zuma one that is now dedicated to the JCAT and am waiting for my dual rail LPS from Core Audio. The Pang card is a significant improvement over the SOTM but the JCAT is a whole new level. WARNING, let it break it for at least a week before drawing any conclusions. Right out of the box, it is very shrill.

Can you send me some links to this stuff. As I do know the lingo except for a few items here and there .

Thanks

Edorr as I try to realize your thoughts , it has some holes in it. Even if the direct stream is really good better then what I think it will be. I cannot fathom it will in the realm of our dacs. The layers , the separation of details . And beyond that is the ability to maintain it all even with extremely complex music like classical .
I truly do hope for both of us but that level of hope is in neverland and michael Jackson is dead .

We'll find out soon. I hope it is as good (+/- 5%) and the barriers of ultra high end DACs have been lowered and come within reach of a much larger audience. I intend to do a double blind shootout to remove any expectations bias.

Interesting. If you end up with the BLue Smoke USB -> I2S converter this is all moot though, because this only works with the MOBO USB.

As I am hopeful , I do not think you will need to be blinded to tell though. Honestly have you heard it already ?

I asked certain questions and they were not answered. Not saying I am a wizard in audio , but there is a clear difference from a 5 , 10 and then up to our level of dacs. And as I await a level 7 this Saturday , I am hopeful it to gets close Or passes it . If it does I will be the first to say it. After all I own it not an audition model .
I would like to hear a trinity too , just to hear what some are saying.
Please do not feel I am raining on anyone's parade either . I like os audio very much and have many of there products and they all perform very well. It's just when it comes to DACS there is only a few on the planet that perform like the MSB level of DACS . At 57 I wasn't it all and not something close that will make me say well someday .

That is true. If the Blue Smoke is better than the JCAT it would be a feat.

I am still waiting to see if I can get a demo.

Let's just hear it and then decide. According to Paul (not entirely unbiased) it beat the EMM Labs DAC2X (which is not as good as the MSB, but still..... ).

That's my point just what dacs were compared . And I have to give you credit who ever you are , your truthful.

Let's see what happens . Al

Paul is a great salesperson. His products are very good but he reminds me of Obama when he says "we never said the Bridge would do gapless" so I have learned to take much of Paul's claims with a grain of salt.

That is why I want to do a double blind on this one. I don't want expectations bias - expecting the DirectStream to be "as good as Paul says it is", or the MSB to be "the far more expensive and hence better DAC".

I easily accept it, but feel unease about it. Why a DAC that has clocks with 28 fentosecond jitter is sensitive to the source?

And yes, today I ordered a digital Transparent XL AES/EBU cable.

I see your point and in the end it should be done like this. I assume you a few tracks of music you know very well both simple and complex. I see a small pic of your speakers wow do they look good . And I am sure they sound it too. Our wives in some ways must be saints in this. And I wonder what they would do with our stuff if something suddenly happened to us.
Mine would through it all out and have no idea how much it all cost .

I have a directory called "audition", with 6-7 tracks I know extremely well. I start it up on the CAPS 2 connected to the DirectStream and the CAPS 3.0 connected to the MSB and ask someone to switch sources in real time. I don't even trust my sonic memory for these types of shootouts.

What is it. ? I am assuming it's a music server CPU built for purposes
Type. But I have a UMT plus
So I do not look for them .
