UltraCap LPS-1 by Uptone Audio

Alex at Uptone Audio just announced their forthcoming Linear Power Supply which powers the load by alternate banks of supercapacitors thus disconnecting the load from any mains noise or intermediate PS noise (like one from a normal wall-wart).

If you know Vinnie Rossi's LIO, then you are familiar with the concept.

This device uses an FPGA for the monitoring and control part.

The Uptone Audio UltraCap LPS-1 will cost around $395 and probably start shipping in a couple of months.

Looks like Vinnie Rossie will also be offering a stand-alone power supply with ultra-capacitors like the above.

Both of these will be able to power the Sonore microRendu.

Over at CA, there are some incoming Ultracap LPS-1 listening impressions by some lucky early adopters, mostly in combination with their Sonore mciroRendu, but the LPS-1 can be used for DACs and other equipment: I have read reports of some people using it with their Fibre Optic converter too.

One very important thing that the LPS-1 does and which bears emphasising is cutting off an avenue for Leakage Currents.

SMPSes are big culprits for those, but even Linear PSUs can create some.

Since the LPS-1 is feeding the load, be it a DAC or pre-amp or other device, from its super-capacitor banks while disconnected from the AC mains feeder supply, it effectively also disconnect a route for any Leakage Currents into the powered device, thereby providing much better SQ.
