Videos of Acoustically-Coupled Audio Recordings

This recent video is the closest I have gotten to the mid to high 70 percentile of what you can hear in person. Enjoy

I perceive tho art a bit of a realist with your ability to discern/interpret what you hear.

When you say hear in person, I'm unsure if you mean hearing the recording played back in the room? Or if you're implying comparing the sonics of your in-room video to an unadulterated youtube flavor like the one I posted above.

If you're implying the latter, I'd venture to say that your in-room video's sonics are certainly in the ballpark of the youtube flavor as are your words.

Additionally, your in-room video seems to lack any sense of that unpleasant hollowed empty-coffee-can-like sonic signature prevelant in many playback configs.

Nice to see and job well done. Both with the system's level of musicality and with your generally verbal accuracy of what you hear. Very rare to get even one of these in the ballpark but you're seemingly in the ballpark with both.

What galaxy did you say you're from again? :)

Nice equipment, and microphone (Neumann U87). You could record your voice with the Neumann, then play the recording back on your speakers and record that with the Neumann - I've seen someone else publish these types of videos and it is interesting.

On a side note, your videos of your visit to Japan are interesting as well!

The drivers you see in this video correspond to the two large horns at the back of the room?

Out of curiosity do you have a description of the system?
It seems that in every room, listening is done behind a low bookshelf?

Let’s here your system with this track…,

It's a beautiful song from a band I've never heard before and already looked at its availability. So far, I only found it available on the band's website for $38 including shipping. Seems a bit pricey to me but if I hear a few more tracks it may be worth it.

Regardless, you don't really think your listening skills would suddenly blossom this time if I did post a video of this track, do you?

But a few days ago I posted this video in your Dead Can Dance thread for your potential edification and enjoyment.

Where is the microphone that is actually capturing the sound of the speakers located in the room in relation to the listening seat? The video makes it look like it’s at some oblique angle.

The fundamental goal of my channel initially started as just capturing my exploits at shows for those that couldnt make it to get some idea of what they missed. It has evolved to now trying to duplicate the experience in the listening chair which is not possible.

Now the channel is about how close can we get. So the goal is the former the result is the latter.

Thanks for the kind words. I am from Galaxy 32 of the 10MX system (hint hint)

The system uses a DCS Vivaldi CD player and DAC, ML preamps and Mono ML amps for each driver. Isolation transformers and filters are used for each driver as well. There are horns built into the floor with compression drivers and the two that go back the furthest built into the front wall are 12in compression drivers with that access panel in the video.

There is a stepped (4-5) low balcony to get to the listening chair for the one seated sweet spot and then a 7-8 stepped high balcony for guests. 6 way system if I recall correctly. I am not used to videography as a focus so I did not do a great job of telling viewers through the camera about the room. I was too excited to listen and just got what I can in anticipation of getting to hear this system after the long drive from Tokyo

The mic is right behind the listening chair sandwiched between the rear absorption panels. I use a fairly long mic cable to the audio interface and a 3m digital cable to my phone (or mirrorless camera).

When I walk through the system I have plenty of cable length to not affect the dedicated mic position as I don't think anyone really cares how it sounds like off axis or any other location that diminishes the sounds quality.

Mic stays fixed giving me the freedom to choose good looking angles for the video

Actually, I just wanted to hear that lovely empty coffee can sound your system does so well given it was missing from the Aries Cerat system video….;)

A worthy goal…

Nice. And you certainly seem to be on a good path.

Indeed. One begets the other. I mostly asked because it's just not reasonable for most of us to hear the in-room presentation full monty. Doesn't really matter though because your in-room video already tells enough.

Based on your apparent due diligence, I kinda' suspected you weren't from around these parts.

BTW, you did well showing some of the music potential of horns. For a while there, I was condemning all horns. :)

Brad suggested something interesting on another thread, but I did not want to corrupt that thread with a video comment:

Furthermore, one of the things that seems pretty clear is that recordings made with smart phones tend to exaggerate room acoustic effects because of their microphone’s radiation pattern. An Omni mic picks up stuff you won’t hear or is suppressed with live listening.

I think may be Brad onto something here. If he's correct then I think that the relatively more acoustically reflective/less acoustically absorptive a room is the more this omni mic effect will tend to hollow one or thin out the sound on the video?

Smaller, more absorptive rooms might tend to sound warmer and fuller-bodied than larger, more reflective rooms? The larger and more reflective a room is, the worse it will sound on the video?

An easy way to determine this is to record using microphones with different patterns, Omni, cardioid etc.and evaluate the effect on picked up room reflections. I am pretty sure already of the outcome. Maybe I will do it one day if someone doesn’t beat me to it.

I have never had that issue on mobile. I have found that sitting over 5m does not capture sufficient energy of sound from the speakers on mobile, but that’s about it.

@andromedaaudio
Do they have the series crossover?
If yes, the series crossover is not mentioned on your homepage.
I think it is important to mention it since there are not many speakers with series XO on the market.
