Visit to Chris to See Magico M9 and VYGER and Pilium in Southlake, Texas

Peter, how do you know that the sound on the video is not an accurate representation? I have yet to hear the M9 or M7 sound any different on various videos in different rooms with different electronics. If a pattern starts to develop then……

There is some video with microphones close to the speakers and more professional recording equipment where the M9s sound much better. At least by the low standards of a YouTube video.

It should be noted that these systems are all in purpose built, acoustically engineered, and bespoke rooms that are said to be world class in every way.

I am enjoying Ron's videos, particularly the interviews.

I have never gotten a sense of anything underhanded in what Ron is doing. Sure there have been mistakes, but I also get a sense of Ron's genuine love for the hobby.

To me, the sound of nearly all videos of music being played in rooms suck. I try and not draw too many conclusions and just treat them as light entertainment and audio porn.

I think any reasonable member could conclude that the audio sucked and, in no way, representative of a system costing north of seven figures but I could be wrong. Having said that, I better understand Magico's position of not permitting posting of M9 utube videos.

As a former hi end audio guy, I cannot understand the angst created by the audio quality (irregardless of whether it is good, bad or marginal) on utube videos and how anyone can come to any conclusion on the performance of the subject speaker. Seems to me that is common sense but I could be wrong again.

Absent conclusive proof to the contrary, I still find the innuendo about the OP's integrity to be inappropriate and unprofessional but what do I know. Cheers gentlemen.

Carlos, I do not know because I have not actually heard it, but there are some comments from Lee and others about how incredible this M9 in Dallas sounds, and I have not heard anyone like the sound in Ron's video, so I am assuming the video is not good. I could be wrong.

You honestly think that Ron went in to videotape the M9 so that he could promote his Clarysis? A speaker that is not even remotely similar in any respect?
That’s a far stretch IMO.

I wrote nothing about Ron promoting anything. I wrote that I agree with Bob in the sense that I describe in my post. You are attributing an opinion to me that I have not expressed.

I would hope that the video is not accurate but surely someone should be able to provide a video showcasing these speakers. It’s not that hard to capture the gestalt and magic of a system for others to hear what all the fuzz is about. Come on give me a break. This is a $1MM system. It and the other videos posted should at least be aspirational based on the costs.

Yes, videos can give a glimpse in support of what one writes too. Rhapsody just posted two videos of his new Magico M7. Surely he thinks they are somewhat representative and give a glimpse of their sound. Those videos do sound completely different from Ron's background music.

I think that Lee heard them at the factory when Alon was offering all expense paid trips to audio journalists and social medial influencers to go out to listen to them and them promote the speakers.

As far as their impressions, I guess that it’s all relative.

Peter I wrote my comments in post # 97 factoring in those two M7 videos from Bob Rhapsody Brooklyn taken into consideration.

Peter, NOT AT ALL representative of anything. Those videos were taken using Spotify with a Devialet integrated. The M7s had only been played for 18 hours. I had ocean waves playing all last night to start the break in. When I woke up this morning for the heck of it I played a track or two and was amazed how much that I liked the sound. The videos don't even come close to the in room as there is no bass in the videos. In room there is incredible clear hard driving bass. This was for FUN, to show that even speakers out of the box with no hours and the lowest of sources can make one enjoy music.

It's amazing that people can't understand that some people (ME) just post the videos for fun, NOT as a representation of what a system sounds like. GEEEEEZZZZZZ.

When do you expect to be able to post a video that’s not for fun? At those prices you have to get serious at some point.

Ok Bob. My mistake. I appreciate the clarification very much and I have a completely different perspective now about the value of your videos. I will enjoy your still photos.

Carlos,

I have the M7s running now, installed yesterday, 24/7 with ocean waves. I will run them for 300 hours like this. Then they will be ready for demo for those that would like come and hear them in my room.

I don't have the M7s to make serious videos, I have them to do live demonstrations and sell them. Don't forget I've already sold one pair of M7s and installed them three months ago. I also am close to the next M7s sale.

I know many people can tell what a system sounds like from videos. I'm not one of them. I need to hear a system in room, to hear the bass, the soundstage, the layering, the depth, which I never get from a video. That's me, others can tell all of that with videos, I understand.

I thought it was fun to show how I was listening to the worst source possible with out of the crate speakers and that I still liked it. I was mistaken.

For FUN? When you know videos always get criticized?

Regardless, while I and many others fully understand that videos are mostly worthless and can impossibly represent the sound in the room, there are also many who don't. Why do you play into the delusional expectations of some that they can judge a system by a video by posting videos? Is that a good business strategy? Methinks, not.

Understood. Was the M7 that debuted in Paris also cold out of the crate? I ask because it had a similar sound. Is Alon doing any type of break-in on these high dollar speakers at the factory? I would assume that they past all their factory acceptance tests and they would be ready to deliver right away; does the factory send a technician out to re-certify that they still meet factory specifications after the 300 hour break in process?

No they can't. If they think they can, they are deluding themselves.

Al,

These were posted in my Rhapsody Listening Room thread, right after the postings of the speakers in the garage a few hours prior. The people who follow Rhapsody got that. Having those videos dragged into this thread was not my doing.

I have a lot of customers, friends and many who have visited my place. They get what I am doing, sorry so many don't understand, but it is what it is.

In the thread where my videos were appropriately posted there is no criticism of the videos only here. Again, it is what it is. I'm a happy camper because I like what the M7s sound like even with a Devialet and Spotify. To each their own.

For those that don't want to judge a system with videos and are in the NYC area, give me a call and come in and hear the M7s, not with Spotify, but with the VYGER or Extreme or first get R2R.

Al, regarding business strategy, I've sold the only pair of M7s in the US at this point and will soon announce a second sale. Thx for worrying about my business strategies, I'm fine with the way I run my business. It works for me AND my customers.

Well I personally don’t understand the visit? Ron sells a competing panel speaker, and has heard what Chris offers elsewhere — so that aspect is suspicious.

He goes to a place with one of the premier speakers available (M9) and doesn’t allow time for a genuine audition? Is the purpose to do a quick visit like visiting a room at an audio show?

Chris has a couple superbly built rooms for auditioning, was the visit to learn about that? Is Ron trying to solidify his bona fides as a youtube influencer? As an audio reviewer? All while now having a commercial interest?

Was it a social visit? Then why post a video and just instead write a couple paragraphs?

Seems odd for a competitor to visit and post anything?
Is Rhapsody audio not an advertiser with WBF ? Maybe Ron was interested in hearing the big Magicos , showing impartiality to his competing product as a audio dealer and making a nice video for a advertiser at the same time ? Many hats at once, but Ron does juggle them quite competently most of the time ! :)
