Tang's and universums also do that very well.
Why did you remove the Unis from your "wish list"?
Did I miss something? Did you find VOTTs you really love? Where can I read about it?
You know they are VERY wide?
Sorry for OT

I am not convinced by the Devore narrative. Heard the Refs in Munich and while not bad also not inspired. Something like the Live Act Audio speakers sound far more realistic, particularly in dynamics, in a room that for their size was less suitable. The normal O96 might be wonderful but in that price range I can think of some tough competition.

I had a similar response to the Axjet this year, which is a BD4 with DSP. It was truly horrible. The Pnoe in past years was mediocre but not horrible and I can imagine it working well in a tweaked setup like the General’s.

The RD Acoustic speaker was a real sleeper and sounded best in the demo room with the Fostex driver over the quite expensive Voxativ. Close up, the “salad bowl” front horn attachment was too “direct” but in a big room would help probably.

both the devore reference and the axjet (and the pnoe) at Munich were not good and not at all representative of what I am referring to.

I am not going commercial horns. I am assembling horns myself. It is fairly simple. Buy drivers, get a carpenter to build you the cabinet, buy the horn, plug in driver, get someone to build you a simple first order crossover, connect the amp, and play through a Lampi :)

So in fact you aren't assembling them yourself.

Whatever I do agree you could have some fun and save loads of money.

But it is high risk and what you initially end up with may disappoint. Best at least to read up and understand stuff so you can mod yourself. Because you WILL want to.

We have a tv program in the UK called "DIY SOS". I hope the name isn't copyrighted, because this is SO appropriate for our restless travelling audio aesthete Ked.

I have an exact reference I will be replicating. After that base is set, I might tweak from there. That is years away.

You know how much I loved those silvercores with dual 18 inch woofers per speaker in front loaded horns. I heard two of his, and previously another one in Berlin with JBL 18 inch. All those were too huge but similar projects can be done with 15 inch woofers and reducing the cabinet size, as far as I am concerned it gives the best midbass down to 40 Hz in audio, from approx. 500 Hz. After that crossing over the higher frequencies - whether you want 2 way or 3 way and which driver - is the same as playing around with which cartridge, Lyra or vdh or zyx or koetsu, a bit dependent on preference, fit, and ability of owner to implement, and budget of course. You should, for your room size, do dual 18 inch woofer front loaded bass horns.

I think it's time to make a post about the speakers you're going to build, and get started.

Btw I tried to get General to reply, do you know what cables he uses, Ked?

I think he used shun mook at one point, and also recently had a Sablon interconnect, and he also has Vyger cables.

You don't want him to elaborate. He has been preaching Gian and I everyday for the past two weeks on VOTT and some specific drivers. o_O I am happy to see him finalizing recipe though.

So which VOTT is worthy as a basis and with which drivers? What experience triggered your VOTT clone idea? I thought it was modded old Tannoys for you now...or was it Universum? ;)

Modded tannoys and devores were always the compromise solution, for space and budget. Big horns were the ultimate. Universum will always be better than modded tannoys. But much more expensive. And there will be other horns better than the uni at a much higher price

You didn't answer my basic question...try again?

Still doing research. There are many options, Altec, JBL, with other drivers for high frequencies like TAD etc. I prefer two, max three way with dual front firing woofers. Anyway don't want to distract from the pnoe thread at this point
