I spent the evening listening and trying to understand what separates the Vyger as being so very special. I realised that in literally every parameter that I explored, it seems to exceed anything I have heard before.
The bass texture and depth is really very special indeed and I don’t believe I have heard anything like this (across any format) in my room before. Amazing the quality of bass captured in the grooves of our LPs. The slam on kickdrums is fast and potent but this is contrasted with cymbals that splash and fizz with a level of fidelity and decay I just have never heard before - they seem to hang in the air and ring in the acoustic for a long time. The staging is mental because the image is very 3D and can often envelop you on some music and then it changes drastically from recording to recording (as it should). The resolution is as good as I have heard - this shows as instrument tone being just closer to the real thing. Vocals sound very natural and tactile. Signal to noise (floor) is the best I have heard on the LP format. Doesn’t surprise me when one thinks of the airbearing and suspension in play concomitantly. Finally it says don’t you dare lift the arm until you heard the whole LP, which is a great sign of something that is gripping and appealing to our emotions. It really is a joy to behold. Will continue to update as I start learning more about this monster in due course.

Now all you have to do is choose the perfect cartridge that will complement the Vyger and not stall the magic.

I would humbly suggest the Straingauge with Peter’s bespoke psu, but I know you insist on tubes in the signal chain. I love it and cannot imagine moving on past it.

In a normal browser-sans PhShop-- open your original file --rotate to correct-- then Save As and I'd add a letter to the Title so it becomes a sep identity.
i.e Title.jpg becomes Title A.jpg. Save latter as corrected rotation.

Apologies my details on that page are very out of date and my system has changed radically since then over quite a few iterations. Of most recent note on the analogue side; I moved from the Kuzma Ref II / Triplanar to SME 30/2 and then to a pimped up Garrard 301 and now to the Vyger. I changed phonostage to the Aesthetix Io Signature 3 box and now to the NVO Spa 2 SE. I am using a Madake with the Vyger now - love this cartridge and I am not convinced many have heard this optimised (heard some say it is muddy and rolled off). On the amp side I moved from the Krell/ARC to Analog Domain but then moved to Mastersound 845 Ref as I swapped my Focals out. I am now using some Loth X Minstrel horns (awaiting a repair) and some Maggie 3.7s but looking for a final speaker solution next year. Digital all gone now as I decided to go analogue only for my sins.

Listening to the indomitable folk classic, Penguin Eggs by Nic Jones just now. The Vyger is extracting the fabulous vibrato technique on each note no matter how subtle. The guitar has wonderful harmonic textures and Nic’s vocal has that natural human warmth. I do love Farewell to the Gold during the passages where the vocal harmonies literally envelop the room - very special feeling. I would say it is actually a very intimate experience. Anyway - even if folk is not your thing, suggest getting a copy:

The air linear tracking arm was very much an integral and important part of the Vyger formula that appealed to me. That together with air bearing, vacuum suckdown and suspension.
I had always noticed the best linear trackers having amazingly generous soundstages, a parameter that I find critical for full scale orchestral. Also the lack of tracking distortion on the inner grooves seemed an obvious desideratum and one that frustrated me historically.
Without wishing to start a full scale war on the subject of linear tracking arms, I think if one sets out to create a no holds barred attempt at analogue playback supremacy then this is the topology of choice. Doesn’t surprise me that the most outlandish attempts in history such as the Sirius III would attempt such an implementation. That said building them is expensive and extremely difficult and many have failed. I salute Vyger for doing their own thing and creating their bespoke solution that comes with the TT.
Bill, as you know I’m owner and proud user of a linear air arm, just a LITTLE less sophisticated than your Vyger one .
