Sorry if I gave the wrong impression - that's a picture from the online reviews at Amazon.

Arrived to day Apeared to have been opened but unused.

We were making beautiful music together. it tripped the breaker a couple of times and now it will not reset. So good I don't want to return it. It was not hot to the touch, and I did not smell anything burning. I'll give it a good night's rest and try it again in the morning. :( :( :( :(

it is back up this morning. What a delima? I have not played any music yet. Should I just toss it and order a new one or make it work? I forgot how much fun tweaks can be. The better the sound the more finicky the product.

it has been on all day. So, I will see how it goes in tonight's listening session.

This is a major improvement.

I had a similar experience with improved SQ putting a Schaffner common/differential mode filter between the AC power cord and the Farad powering my modem. Added a significant amount of clarity, especially in the midrange. I already have a DigiBUSS, ATL DC blocker, and Bryston Isolation transformer providing line conditioning. Apparently you can't have too much.

After 48 I hear increased dynamics, clarity, reduced nose and spatial isolation. Surprising. That is with it plugged into the previous surge protector. I have climb under the dresser to plug it directly into the wall. I will do that tonight.

I have decided switch this out for a new one. For me it is easier than trying to get a warranty repair down the road. The box was open when I received it, that means I may have paid full price for an open box return.
I do not know why. but it seems digital benefits from cables and noise filtering far more than analog. I'll leave it to the experts.

Bottoms up. As you can see the top comes off the bottom.

Sheet meal screws!@#$%^&**

I installed the new unit today. Clearly the old one was inferior. For me this a head scratcher. I'll just hold comment until I get a premium usb for the XDuoo/HD800S combo.
Is the word I am looking for epiphany? I fully expected to return this unit informing them it was not ready for prime time.
