Wadax Studio

Thanks for the update Rich. It seems that the Studio met your sonic needs, so it's a shame that you haven't found a UI that works for you. Did you use it with app or via the on device display?
Perhaps the Kalista. I know that Lotus Hi-Fi sell that. I've also head good things about the Rockna Wavedream combo, and they have a new top of range DAC coming soon.

We didn't try the Apple interface, just CD playback using the remote. It wasn't only about the user interface,, the Studio is a wonderful sounding unit, but with my visual issues a number of very minor complexities which would be no problem at all to a sighted individual are more challenging for me, hence my reluctance to pursue going through with the purchase.

Funny you should mention Kalista, it was my first thought as well, however having discussed this with Richard at Lotus, he felt the Kalista sound ranges more to the silky warmer end of the spectrum, I wanted to keep things as neutral as possible, so I'm currently looking at a 2 box solution, Metronome Le Player 4 Cd transport and Thrax Maximinus 2S dac, both employ touch button controls to some degree, oh for the days before touch screens. :)

Well I hope that you find something that you like and can get along with. With my CJ and Zanden I still have plenty of buttons!

I have posted a video to try demonstrate the bass quality and performance of my current setup : WADAX Studio Player x Goldmund Reference Preamp x Goldmund Telos 800 Power Amp x Magico M2 (without subwoofer activated)

Hi Gary.
Congratulations. Very nice system !!!
Sound seems very clean, with stunning texture ,precision and quick bass.
Questions:
- I see you are playing CD. What’s your experience vs streming?
- M2 doesn’t go very low. Have Studio added more sub bass?
- Have you played with output impedance?
What has been your final choice?
Regards !!!

Thanks for the response and questions.

To me, the player sounds the best with streaming from a music server / NAS with proper LAN noise management (otherwise CD will win by a slight margin vs streaming in all cases), this is perhaps because the Player when operates as a DAC has no spinning disc, i.e. less internal vibration. However, I perceives the Player sounds relatively better with CD (vs the streaming platforms such has Spotify / Tidal due to factors beyond my controls).

I think the Goldmund Reference Pre helps the bass a bit, instead of the Studio Player which by all means has already got a very good tonal balance.

> Have you played with output impedance? What has been your final choice?
I have a few email exchanges with WADAX on the subject and finally opted 7.4 Ohm when connecting the Player with my Power Amp directly and 0.4 Ohm when connecting with my Goldmund Reference Preamp.

WADAX was sounding nice ay CAF 2024.

As Christmas Is drawing near, I would like to share a recording session of the Studio Player playing Nativity Carol from the Star of Wonder Album.

In this recording session, the Studio Player is directly connected to my Goldmund Telos 800 power amp, (skipping the Goldmund Reference Preamp)

Merry Christmas !
