What’s the cleanest way to slice a piece off a record?

In the past, for manually doing an initial SRA check, I’d lower the cart on to a CD and then maneuver the Dinolite up to it. But yesterday I was watching an Ortofon setup video on YouTube, and there the fellow on the video usec a record with a crescent sliced off the edge, making for a very nice straight line boundary when the cart was lowered just inside that edge. I thought that was a great idea that I’d like to try (I’ve got plenty of old trash records), but I’m not sure what the best way would be to make a clean, sharp cutoff of a small crescent on a record. Anyone know how this could be done?

I've never used it on a record, but this works well on many different kinds of plastic. About $5-10 at your local hardware store.
