JC Bach Sonatas for keyboard and violin accompaniment, Spanyi playing tangent piano on Hungaroton.

The first and only time I saw Joan Sutherland in person was singing Donna Anna (the same role as in this recording) back in 1966 or 1967 in Boston at the Boston Opera. The audience was waiting patiently to get into the hall, and the performance was already late to start. Suddenly, a quite tall and large (in the way an NFL linebacker was large in those days), whizzed by me (only a couple of feet away). As she passed by, I realized it was Joan Sutherland. She was late to the performance, which couldn't start without her, since Donna Anna appears near the beginning of the first act. This was a year or two before the date of this recording - July, 1968. Her husband is conducting, as he did most of her operas on Decca and in person. I don't remember whether he conducted that night. Larry

Krystian Zimerman and Sir Simon Rattle conducting LSO on Beethoven piano concertos, a pure joy
