What are you currently listening to (Classical)?

Spectacular playing and sound. CS really knew how to record pianos back in the day. This one has (to my ears) a nearly perfect balance between presence and ambience.

He was the producer--Marc Aubort was the engineer. I'm sure they worked in tandem to produce their great results on all of their recordings.
To be sure. OTOH, the success of Silver's productions of piano recordings spans (and is supported by) the talents of a number of engineers.

Gave a whirl Christoph, but wasn't really up my alley. :)
I have so much to catch up from the beginning of this thread that I only add to my library what really grabs me when listening to excerpts
This album did not end up in my library ;)
But it was an interesting experience and it sounded quite good iIrc :D

Could you give a few examples of what you are buying?

Also are you buying the physical disc(s) or downloading?

I'm streaming Qobuz via roon.
No buying but adding to my virtual roon library what I really like.

This popped up in my new releases on Primephonic.

If I may respectfully say so, it is beautifully transposed for Cello and played by Wolfgang Schmidt with Metamorphosen Berlin Chamber (the latter is really superb).

Just the thing on a cold winters evening.

I’m fond of the Brits. Lot more to them than what usually gets trotted out.

Gosh hard to find a bad recording these days. Excellent work by Sony.

Sometimes - and this is shallow - I play something simply because the album cover art appeals. I rather fancy this one. That said - I know this recording reasonably well and certainly like Abbado & the LSO in this collaboration. A mixed collection of overtures is not my preferred way to listen - I always feel something is best enjoyed in context - however this collection is an enjoyable enough with the brass and strings allowed to 'hang' rather nicely before moving along.

SQ is so so - I'm not much of a fan of DG's early digital recording - this was recorded 1985-86 ish in the UK, by an all German recording and production team. So if one has a listen, it is to the performance not the sq, in my respectful opinion.

I'm no great (Felix) Mendelssohn aficionado, but greatly admire his Symphony #2, Hymns of Praise - semi Cantata it is, and as everyone knows something of a Beethoven 9th: another favourite of mine. Interestingly, perhaps, #2 was IIRC composed somewhere after 3 and before 5, despite numbering. Fanny Mendelssohn, I very much enjoy.

Another classic.

You know I cannot recall a single post from you that is not positive, generous and kind in spirit. Even if you disagree with someone (I saw that somewhere here recently) and the other person takes umbrage (kind of a given here) I noticed you were conciliatory not confrontational. It is something that has been in the back on my mind to give you kudos for, and figured - now is good.

So - a very public thank you for adding to my day every time you post.

Cheers

I think we have the same tastes when it comes to classical music.

An excellent recommendation—it's been in my library for fifteen years. Sometimes I play something simply because the name of the piece appeals, and on this recording it's definitely track #3: Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage.

Something we all yearn for these crazy days!

cheers,
muski
