This Telarc disc had the reputation for blowing speakers up because of its very powerful bass.at the time of release few speakers could handle the cannon shots of this recording.

I know. That's why I asked.
The Vinyl Album has very funky grooves for that passage and reportedly a LOT of arms/cartridges where not able to track that passage without jumping out of the grooves or even damaging the cart
On the subject of cannon fire. This was among the pile of discs set aside to be dealt with at a later date I decided had arrived. At least unsettling blasts were live fire here.
I haven't even come halfway through all the albums ... so it will be difficult to choose but so far
I like The Mendelssohn in Scotland, SXL 2246, it's quite a nice performance.
Janine Jansen - Beethoven Britten Violin Concertos - is always nice to listen to so she also gets high scores...
Offhand I remember Blomstedt's "Eine Alpensinfonie" was one of the finest I've heard.
Both this box and Decca Analogue Years are phenomenal greatest recordings in the catalog collections. Very light on the offense of shoveling in currently contracted artists. At that, selections such as the Jansen disc are not poorly referenced against the heavyweights.
I really like the Suzuki Bach. He started doing the entire Bach Cantatas for BIS in 1995. The first 20 or so were released on CD's and then they switched to SACDs which were multichannel hybrid (mch, stereo and stereo CD). They then released the first group in SACD hybrid, with I believe the multichannel versions remastered from the stereo originals. I have the 55 SACD's, and 10 more making up the secular cantatas which were issued separately. They then were released in bargain boxes - 10 SACD's per box. Looks like those have been discontinued, so only the individual discs are being currently sold. He has done other Bach, including the B minor Mass, Musical Offering, the Overtures, both St. Matthew and St. John Passion and many others. We saw Suzuki and part of his Bach Collegium Japan a few years ago when they gave a concert in Berkeley.
