What can we tell from measurements?

In fact, explaining much about these amps is a challenge. They evoke such a strong positive reaction, but why? There is one word that helps describe it, for me at least: authority. The -... impart the foremost sense of reality I've heard, no matter the circuit or technology. This is certainly due to the traits I've mentioned -- the detail, transparency, clarity and naturalness -- but it goes beyond these, to the way the ... reproduce music with command of all its elements, representing what's on the recording and promoting a connection with the listener. We all know people who speak with authority; the ... are amplifiers that do as well.

When I first listened to the ..., its sound most reminded me of that of the ...stereo amplifier that I reviewed in August 2011: fast, precise, detailed, somewhat lean overall, and more interested in correctly producing the initial transient than in fleshing out the texture-producing sustain. In "Yulunga," from Dead Can Dance's Into the Labyrinth (LP, 4AD), the hand drum crackled with taut definition, while the metal percussive accent that floats above was noticeably and appropriately metallic. The shaker was reproduced as cleanly as I've ever heard it; the sound of each seed (or whatever) inside it was precisely rendered and compactly sized..

What can you tell me about these two cutting edge amps. Next I'll post some specs and see if you can match the two If you guess thee identity of the amps Please keep it to yourself.

I'd like to know what one can design into an amplifier that makes it "more interested in correctly producing the initial transient than in fleshing out the texture-producing sustain."

And I own a shaker. I've held it in my hand and shaken it, inches from my ears, and could never hear the sound of each seed. I thought this thread was about measurement.

Tim- I fear you are being too literal. Do you have anything to offer about how the two amps might measure??

Edit" Additional clues

Amp 2
As promised, the ...[amps'] bottom end was fast, taut, and very well extended through the .... speakers (review in the works)—the bass transients in "Yulunga" were superbly defined. The depth-charge bass notes a few minutes in had full extension and notably clean delineation of the transients, though they could have used some additional weight, and definitely more body. The amp gripped that bass bomb and held it cleanly until it was time to let it go. Then it seemed to dissipate unusually cleanly and quickly.

If you like your midband rich, you won't get it from.. [this amp]... ; but if you like it transparent, open, and lightning-fast, that [...it] coould do...

Amp1

Another semi-revelation was the ... bass, which was as tight as the recording would allow and offered agility, weight and impact... These amps can move air, but as with the midrange, the bass is detailed and varied with each recording. -- it's fully integrated into the presentation, not an attention-grabbing element of the sound produced....

No, I'm waiting of you. Do you have measurements?

More clues

Amp2

The sound was initially very impressive. It had tremendous dynamic sweep, with superb control of the .. woofers, tremendous clarity, and nothing identifiably wrong. H
owever, the more I listened, the more the overall sonic picture seemed flat and uninvolving. An enigma.

..., I wasn't fully prepared for the magnificent sound of the ...[amp], which have firmly established themselves as one (or two) of the very best-sounding amps I've heard and by far the most complete''' design I've encountered... I've heard many very good amps and a few that are great; as I type this, I'm convinced that the ...[amp]3s are the best of them all.

Still no guess
Hint" Is t solid state or tube?

I have owned the first of them and even posted about it a few days ago . Never listened to the second. Can I ask you what is the purpose of posting separate short sentences of reviews, meaning very little sense when out of the context?

Can I ask you where are you getting measurements of the first amplifier?

.Microstrip
You are right the amplifier you owned has managed to avoid public measurements as far mas I have been able to determine.

I watched ad campaign for a national car repair chain.. In that commercial people walked in with little more than a reproduction of the noise the car was making. With that noise the technician was abke ti diagnos the problem with a reasonable degree of accuracy. I thought it might be fun to post portions of reviews to ascertain if some members could make some approximations about how the amplifier measured and ultimately guess the identity. With Google I thought I should try to disguise the clues.

Next I thought I could post measurements and specifications and the could describe the sound and ultimately name the product.

Seemed like a good idea at the time.

I think it would be fairly obvious which amp is SS and which was tube...If anyone is intereted/

So we are supposed to look at the measurements and try to figure out what measurement goes with what amps based on the subjective responses of two different reviewers?? Do I have that right??

Rob:)

Hello Gregadd

You need to post more information about the measurement. What is that?? On axis anechoic or averaged room response in a defined listening window?? Also with speakers you need to look at the overall power response/polar plots as that can greatly effect what the overall in room balance is as opposed to what you see in the on axis measurement.

Rob:)

We will keep adding information until someone guesses right.

It must be the power of google
