What is new in my music library? (recent purchases I enjoy)

This is going to knock your socks off. I have the recent 24/192 remaster and it is scary good.

My socks are on the floor.....along with my jaw!!!

This new 45rpm MFSL Kind of Blue is a giant step above my six eye mono or stereo!!!! I would say that if one is going to buy just one LP this year, here's the one. Absolutely stunning. MFSL have knocked one out of the park.

Not new, but I just found these in an unopened box I had in storage for over 10 years. There were about 40 more....

I didn't know First Impression Music did downloads? Is this an official download or is prestoclassical just offering a rip they done themself because I can't believe a quality label like First Impression Music will offer mp3's.

Pretty sure the download is licensed. They have a ton of other CDs with no downloads available.

Very nice rearrangement into Jazz! Searching there is a white version of this album from Telarc. Is there much of a quality difference between that and this one?

To be honest, i have compared several Telarc regulars to these FIM Remasters, and have always preferred the FIM Remasters...but the question also came up on a few which was "do i care THAT much?" This was 2nd hand so no big deal, but i would bet the Telarc regular is great and on Amazon much, much less expensive.

You HAVE to care THAT much I say because otherwise, what's the point in having a great system like yours if you're content with a recording of lesser quality ;)

You are too kind...;) In truth, i say 'do i care THAT much' because on certain music (Goldberg Variations, Mussorgsky, Bach, or Oscar Peterson, Lightnin' Hopkins, i really do care for the best quality remastering i can find...) but on other music where i am less picky, i dont think i can justify the price of some of the FIM Remasters.

But even on Cantate Domino where the original is EXCELLENT, i have to admit, i enjoy the FIM Remaster 32-bi, etc Remaster because it is EVEN BETTER, which is a lot of fun to enjoy...because we get to enjoy the music, the remaster and the system...triple the fun!

It is certainly a tough pill to swallow when a specific CD is $35 and the other version $12. As much as I spent $600 on a tape of GV yesterday (!), I do try to get more music to enjoy than spending a lot more on one if the value is small. So I appreciate Lloyd's answer.

its even tougher when I could probably find the 2nd hand Telarc CD for $2bucks! Thats when i really have to enjoy the music [a lot] for an FIM/MFSL/DCC/APO Remaster...

I'd be in the poor house if I bought the best mastering/pressing of every album I owned. Also, the best is not always vastly superior, so you have to decide if the additional investment is worth the expenditure. Many times it's not.

Totally agree. i also have recently found myself wondering...remaster?...or actually discover NEW music? The best is when i hear something new i really like and before purchasing, manage to discover a good quality, well reviewed remaster as the first purchase.

So it arrived...its stunning. HUGE...10" x 10" x 7". 81 CDs and a 10"x10"x1.5" book on his life. But how does it sound?

For me, a far superior sound (to my taste) than the 1981 and 1955 CDs!!! To me it is a at least as great a leap of improvement than even the best MFSL/Analogue Productions Hybrid SACD Remasters vs the original CDs. It is remarkable...in some cases, they feel [almost] like a Chandos recording.

For example, the Beethoven Concerto 1 feels as natural, effortless, spacious (and almost as dynamic/detailed) as a wonderful Chandos Recording I enjoy of Massenet's works conducted by Neeme Jarvi which was recorded and produced in 2014.View attachment 23635

I still can't get my arms around 81 CDs!!!

That aside :), I would like to get my hands on it given your review Loyd. Did someone say they downloaded the high-res version? If so, where from? I would hate to sit there and rip 81 CDs :).
