What's Spinning Tonight?

In honor of the finale of Breaking Bad, i tracked down a copy of "Straight Up"- it's a sterling pressing, was never played, still in shrink. Killer.

:D Indeed!

We seem to have a knack for exporting some great folk. Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Bruce Cockburn, Murray Mclaughlin, etc.
I think, and no disrespect intended, b/c i dig Canada - that a lot of artists develop young in environments where they are misfits or bored out of their minds with convention or the staidness of the place and want the big city lights and thrills. So, to me, it makes perfect sense. I think you'd find a lot of H-wood actors comes from 'bland' places in the States- they know they are never going to get what they want hanging around in their home town. Like I said, not dissing Canada...

I think you're right to a large degree, and no offense taken at all.

Celine Dion, and so many more Canadian artists/singers/songwriters/musicians are coming from a family of artists, ...Daniel Lanois, Richard Seguin, Raoul Duguay, Richard Desjardins, Jean-Pierre Ferland, Robert Charlebois, Diane Dufresne, Louise Forestier, Offenbach (Gerry), ... they were all already born Canadian Quebecois artists. ...No boredom, no misfits, no conventions, no staidness, no aspiration to big city lights and thrills, just real life in the back streets of Montreal and Quebec and the gorgeous countryside, where everything we already had/have.

Like I said I'm from Quebec (Canada) and I grew up with/among them.

nice. I see they're DMM, I guess one cant complain considering the historic significance of these recordings.

I just finished the first LP... a 1947 recording. It's a little weak in the bass, but still amazing sounding considering the age of the master. CD quality quiet surface noise. This is probably due to the mono recording being played back with a mono cart.

edit: I just Finished the second version of Beethoven No.6 recorded in 1954. Much better bass extension. Technology improvements I guess.
