Also picked up a used tough to find copy of Sarah McLachlan - Touch.

Hope to be spinning both it and RLJ this afternoon (after the US-Finland hockey game).

Let us know how it sounds John.

+1.

I'm very interested on your thoughts too. I own the original MFSL pressing of this LP and frankly, it's not that great. Let's hope that MFSL did better this time.

Ricky Lee Jones - MFSL 2-45010 - 2LP/45RPM

I want to listen to it a little more to see if this pressing is in fact truly the best there is. My first impression is quite favourable and I feel it beats my Rhino copy with ease. I didn't bother with a comparison to my original pressing as I felt the Rhino was superior to it anyway.

What impressed me most was the clarity of the soundstage in general. I felt it was more open and airy and it was a nice revelation to properly hear the decay of the cymbals and the more realistic (IMO) sounds of the keys on the piano. The instruments sounded more like instruments, so I felt a little closer to the performer. Rickie's voicing was clearer, less muffled if you will and I could understand her lyrics a little better (although I know them inside out). The bass was rendered just right for my liking with no heaviness that I feel sometimes bloats a recording. I'm probably in the minority when I say that bass response is the least important aspect of a recording to me and I feel that many times it's over done. But we can discuss that in another thread.

The vinyl itself was very quiet and my copy exhibited no noise whatsoever from beginning to end on each side of both LP's. The packaging is first-rate and I love the Box format. It came with a nice 8-page booklet, protective foam inlays and a heavy-grade cardboard filler piece. Nice touch!

If you are a fan of this album then I would recommend it highly as you would appreciate the superior sound presentation. However, if you are a marginal fan, then I would skip it as you may not appreciate the extra dollars you'd have to spend.

Please remember that my opinion is based on owning a system that is not nearly as revealing/resolving as most here and you may find the differences to be greater or significantly superior.

Anyway...that's my two cents.

John, great write up, Thanks. I'm going to put the new RLJ on my short list.

You're welcome Davey! I should add that both the Rhino and the MFSL were cleaned prior to the comparison, and the volume control was the same. The 45 may be ever so slightly louder, but I'd have to do the comp again to make that statement more definitive. I'm off today (felt like having a 3-day weekend) and it's playing now. It really is quite wonderful! :D

The Orchard - Liz Wright
Live in Concert - Clannad
Bloomfield Blues - Mike Bloomfield
