Terje Rypdal - Whenever I Seem to Be Far Away

This 74 release nicely straddled the lines between jazz, prog (King Crimson), and modern (tonal) classical. The haunting french horn used on this makes for a dark, but beautiful listen.

I may have a bit of confirmation bias here (Rypdal is from Norway), but this just makes me think of 'cold'. The cover of this is a great depiction of what I mean.


 
My girlfriend's album. Certainly not my cup of tea. And talk about a totally flat and lifeless recording with loads of purposely added distortion. Yuck. It sucks! But... She wants to hear it on my system, so...
