Just finishing listening to Verdi’s magnificent grand opera Don Carlos on a superbly recorded EMI recording from 1971 produced and recorded by the Christopher Brothers who created many of EMI’s most brilliant recordings of their golden age. Featuring a star studded cast led by Placido Domingo, Montserrat Caballe, Sherril Milnes etc. conducted by maestro
Carlo Maria Guilini, this recording shows the power of analog vinyl recordings at its very best. Powerful dynamics from the thundering cannonballs in the opening Fountainbleau act to soaring strings and the golden brass, this is a desert island album.
