What's the most recent piece of audio equipment you have purchased and when?

I don't have much to report yet since they are just starting to break in.

KEF LS50 speakers and they just arrived a few hours ago.

congrats...been reading great things about these...look forward to your thoughts as you get to know them.

Moved up the YG range from Carmels to Kipod II sigs a couple months ago.

I bought two things last night:

1. Another 1m pair of Chinese silver ribbon interconnect that works so well (ie. quietly) with my phono stage. These are slightly different than my other pair. For ~$19 shipped, why not take a shot?

2. 1.5m of Supra(raw) power cable. I'd already built a 1m cord with the same Supra wire, and I'd like to try more of a loom approach. $27 shipped + my own connectors. Those, I do have.

Let's hear more about that upgrade!

Its just been the last week or so that the Kipods have really cut loose and started making great music. Took awhile for them to really relax, and had me wondering if the Carmels were the perfect choice in my room with my gear. Right now though, the sound/presentation is stunning and is on a higher level than the Carmels were. The bass kills the pr. of JL Audio subs I used with the Carmels in depth, detail, and impact. Didnt think that was possible, but I'll take it. :)
They play bigger, more detail, with a little less warmth than the Carmels. But its not missed. I spent over two years with the Carmel/JL audio speakers and loved them but the Kipods are a more capable speaker, a good upgrade for me.
Also swapped out the stock jumpers for Kubala Elation jumpers which was a cheap and worthwhile addition.

And when and what do you think the next piece will be?

In my case, the most recent piece(s) were two APS Purepower Power Re-generators. One I got about 2 or 3 weeks ago and the other is "in the mail" (or not!).

Next (this coming Friday) I am re-acquiring my Dunlavy VI's that I had sold to a friend who is upgrading to Magico Q5's. And some used Bryston amps to drive them.

After that (once I figure out what brand/function) MAY be a preamp.

After that, NOTHING but more music (and movies!)

I just looked at this quote I made about 6 years ago and could not stop laughing. Since then, I have changed pre-amps 3 times; main speakers twice; subwoofers, 5 times; amps, 3 times; projectors, 4 times; seating, once; houses, once; BluRay players, twice; streaming devices, twice.

And don't you dare call me an addict !!!!!!!

My most recent component..which actually may not be a component, but aids in the SQ as much as most other components...is the Shakti Hallograph's. These 'room tuning' devices don't look like they can work, but they do some amazing things for the sound stage and overall resolution. Highly recommended.

I'll openly call you obsessed, stopping short of addict. ;)

I've been on a roll lately ;)

The last 5 months:

  • Pass B1 buffered passive preamp
  • Solidsteel HF-A amp stands
  • ZenWave Audio D4 interconnects (2 pairs)
  • ZenWave Audio SMSG speaker cables (last week)
  • Tripplite IS 1000HG isolation transformer (i.e., power conditioner) for front end (last week)
And all that (long story, see below) only because I wanted to purchase the following item, which I also acquired:

Schiit Yggdrasil DAC

Here's the long story: Since the Yggdrasil DAC has only fixed output, I needed a buffered passive preamp, which required new interconnects which, because they are so good, led me to buy same brand speaker cables (ZenWave Audio, WBF member DaveC's products); it also required a new system layout, hence the new amp stands, and it required a new power conditioner since my old one runs at 220 V (still from Europe) feeding the Berkeley Alpha 2 DAC which also runs at 220 V. Exhausted reading this? ;)

Resonessence Invicta Mirus Pro

Ordered it yesterday.

Al, can you clear something up for me? In no review of the Yggdrasil have I seen any mention of need for a passive preamp
So why is this needed in your system?
I am considering this dac for a streaming option, possibly w Innuous Zenith streamer, and your comments have left me a little confused

It's not about a passive preamp per se. It's about a volume control option, which would usually be an active preamp like you probably have as well. *)

Here is Robert Harley in his review:

If you’re looking for a DAC that does quad-rate DSD, decodes MQA, offers a volume control, and includes a headphone amp, look elsewhere. But if the very best reproduction of PCM sources is your goal, the Yggdrasil is the ticket. It’s a spectacular performer on an absolute level, and an out-of-this world bargain. The Yggy is not just a tremendous value in today’s DACs, it’s one of the greatest bargains in the history of high-end audio.

_____________

*) I didn't have any preamp before, since my Berkeley DAC went via digital volume control directly into my amps. I don't need an active preamp since the input of my amps is already so sensitive.

Colibri XGW (today), Ortofon SPU a95 (two months ago).

Will compare XGW to XGP and XPP, and then resale, in case anyone wants to buy. Comparing SPU a95 to a85 and a couple of vintage arms, then have a buyer waiting.

So Al, w my standard active tubed pre w Yggdrasil no problem?
Sorry to go off topic, my comms w Al has mutated across from the "$42k transport" one
And yes, I did read his words
Hence my interest
You gotta love a company's flagship product packed w features that is under $3k

nice colibri comparison, try to have the XPP connected to 5kohm :)

Yup, if it works for your CDP, it will work for the Yggy too.

Yes, I like the Yggy. At this point I'll refrain from further comments until Ian (Madfloyd) has heard it, which should happen soon, hopefully within less than a week.

XGW and XGP will also get compared to Atlas - as the XGP and the Atlas exist in the same system currently.

Look forward to those words
Can you open up a dedicated thread?
It's on my radar, along w Aqua La Voce Mk2, to partner maybe w Innuous Zenith Mk2 streamer
I'm pretty happy w my Eera Tentation for silver discs duties, but it doesn't have a "dac out" facility
