Within their performance envelope, the Lamm's work great in Mike's system. The bass is deeper and more more textural yet remains well defined. Music projects into the room and is much more visceral. The presentation is more vivid and lifelike, more akin to a live event. If I've ever had a more emotional connection to recorded music, I can not recall.
Still processing the experience, especially Mike's heretofore unrevealed fanboy devotion to the band Dream Theater...who knew?
Wish I had known this, we could have spent the whole day there!
I am as passionate about them as I am about Rush! Well everything with Portnoy that is!
They draw so much of their influence from Rush.
Have been to many of their shows.
The spirit lingers on!

I was trying to drop a hint. clearly not working. Dream Theater sucks. not into angry one note music, and not worth delving deeper. not meaning to offend anyone. but if I did please get over it. I do have a sincere interest in Rush and have been sampling my digital versions.
any more questions?
if someone does visit and they have favorite music and it's Dream Theater (like last night), then I am very happy to have them play what they choose to play. and it is important to me that they do that. I will be supportive, but not obligated to pursue it for myself. Jazdoc loves to press buttons (I enjoy that about him) and stir the sh*t.

can't speak for Jazdoc, but I think it was his 'just graduated from Berklee College of Music' Son Ben who choose 'Dream Theater' last night.....never known Jazdoc to be a fan of that band or Rush. but Jazdoc has as eclectic and adventurous musical tastes as anyone I know.....so you never know.

Without question they can handle everything that is thrown at them and not even break a sweat. They have pretty much laughed at every challenge presented.

it's funny thinking about it. the key to being able to combine the full charms of the ML3's and dart 458's is the Rodney Dangerfield of 'uber' speakers......the MM7's. they get no respect, in any list of top transducers at best it's an afterthought, added mostly because i post alot about it. no one dreams about it. but it kicks all the other tough guys asses. none can offer the Lamm ML3's the array of optimal advantages to allow it to really shine. it's super room adjustable. and it just delivers the goods. like Mike says, it laughs at any challenge. it rivals horns and planers and stats at their strengths, yet offers true top to true bottom coherency.....and goes down to -3db at 7hz and -6db at 3hz.
Even Bonzo's write up on my system credited my room tuning efforts over the uniqueness of the MM7's. it can't win.
I guess we will have to see if it will continue to stay below the radar, or maybe like you guys, as great as the ML3's perform with it, others recognize the opportunities it offers the ultimate system builders.
I get tired of talking about the MM7's virtues since it mostly is on deaf ears; I guess it takes a universally recognized 'sexy' uber tube amp to draw attention to the uniqueness of the MM7's. the Evolution Acoustics MM7's are the key ingredient to the magic happening here.

Ha!...One last thought to try and redirect this thread back on OT: the Lamm/MM7 combo handled Dream Theater with aplomb at expected (but not excruciating) listening levels...quite impressive.
I heard the EA MM3s at a local audiophiles home a couple of months ago, driven by vintage Harman Kardon Citation II (rebuilt) tube amps. Sounded excellent.
I love it Mike, “one note angry music” re DT. It’s amazing how some music apparently uses lots of notes, but the listener only hears one. Like a hamster running in a wheel and getting precisely nowhere.
Kudos for your interest in Rush, but they’re not to be discussed by you when you have polite company over for dinner, you’ll lose all your friends LOL.
I’ve always been amazed that the EA MM7s don’t even get a look in when discussions cover the big Rockport, Magicos, Wilsons and YGs.

My own experience is that beyond a certain point, the electronics and source (which is also electronic in part at least) contribute or detract more from a realistic portrayl of the music than the speakers. No doubt your speakers are awesome but I can quite easily make them sound like crap with the electronics choices. The other way around, I can take good mid-level speakers and make them sound heavenly (within their limits of course) with really good electronics. I would much rather listen to the latter than the former...of course when playing at the (near)compromiseless level then the level of realism will likely (but not always) be higher if both speakers and electronics are SOTA. One must always be aware though that SOTA in price and SOTA in performance are not always the same thing...

Well, I love Rush...but mostly in my car driving to work. I don't like Dream Theater at all...took the worst bits of Rush and of good heavy metal like Iron Maiden and sucked the spirit out of it, IMO. I also think King Crimson and Yes (early albums) are pretty badass as well (can't get enough of Bill Bruford's drumming).
Brad, you’re 200% right re DT. If you want to tune into the true spirit of Rush and the other great prog acts of the 70s, spin a little Opeth, or Transatlantic. Modern day Marillion (albums “Afraid Of Sunlight” and “Marbles” are masterpieces) are criminally underrated by the style meisters of modern music. Also go to Porcupine Tree. Voivod from Montreal are the true masters of prog metal (unlike the predictable DT), check out “Nothingface” w an amazing cover of Floyd’s Astronomy Dominy.
If you absolutely want to prove your prog credentials, check out French band Magma. Prepare for a trip to an alternative musical universe, “Kohntarkosz” will genuinely make you feel if Stravinsky was alive in his pomp making rock/fusion music in the 1970s, this would have been the result.

Well, not really looking for prog rock credentials...a lot of it is pretentious crap (can't stand Van der Graaf generator or ELP for example). I am more an ECM record head now more than anything...can't get enough of their 70s and 80s recordings...
