TechDas Air Force One

well next time I should choose to buy turntable from how good packing box ?!!!! for may answer this sound ridiculous . like some toyota owner say about how bad of rolls royce . but i don't have rolls royce so i not comment about it!! .

any one care about how heavy for this turn table ? it 85 Kg . almost 200 lb . if put it in hard case how much weight and how much cost for transportation.
and this why FEDEX go bigger everyday .

i believe that japanese traditional they very care about packet i see most japanese item box look cool . or if it not look cool it will be useful.

my Af1 arrived with normal box ,it feel a little disappoint when compare to other japanese box i ever seen. but result is it arrived safely and structure in the box very strong . all foam is in best support position like the way of japanese do . so it seem ok that this turn will travel around the world with out damage . i guest . .... and this packet save a lot of shipping cost . this mean safe my money too. so i don't care how box look like if it can safe my goods and save my cost , it ok . if it broken it also not my responsibility too . so why to care about box . if you want a good box you may order SKB case and their will charge you more 1000-2000 usd for beautiful box and you have to pay more shipping cost make fedex richer .that all everything come with price .

I just want to say every box have own reason . so enjoy
life so short who want to keep the box utill you die just do ,for me if it too much just trow away. very simple . i'm may crazy but not stupid for giving best box award to hifi component boxs..... and for reason to buy any hifi component

ps i'm not a dealer . just user.

Well if the box is the worst thing you have to say about the AF1, consider yourself blessed :)

just to lighten things up, my wife's complaining when our handyman told her there's hardly any space left in out storage room currently occupied by an assortment of pallets and double boxes!

I think he said he doesn't give a damn about the box because it served its purpose quite well and protected the table during shipping and he really didn't want to pay more for the privilege of having a fancy box.

One thing about crates that I don't like is that they are harder to get the items out. Expect knuckle scrapes pulling 80lb amps out of a crate. It's also sometimes a three person affair because you need someone just to pin the crate down. Usually the packing foam is glued to the crate and the amps are wrapped in plastic to boot. With a box, you can pull the amp out of the box along with the molded foam packing material and then set the unit down still protected out of the box.

Heck, my 6.5k avid Pulsare phono stage came packed in a box that Nike wouldn't use for their shoes! That the wife approved of

My english may not good. But what i mean is. Mr mep say.

I understand your English just fine! You have an awesome collection of tables, arms, and cartridges.

Will recede back to my quiet lair ... At $100K I expect more some may be more lenient. ... This morning I paid the consquence on inadequate packaging when I got a very fancy and expensive wireless Boardroom system damaged by water... It might have been raining where it came from Now I have to waitfor FedEx to come up with theinsurance money ...14 days ... Meanwhile a system from a leading VC manufacturer under similar condition except for adequate and almost paranoid packaging survived the same trip with not a sign of rough handling although from how the FedEx guy dropped the packages in front of me I could infer how they were treated during the shipping ordeal ...
Obviously the TechDas has survived the trip ... I still think that at that level of price a Pelican case is far from unwarranted and would not even add much to the overall cost of the unit .. Plus it is a convenient way to ship the unit back for repair, upgrade or adjustment At that level of expenditure we should require more.Fishing for all kind of excuses for manufacturer inadequacies is not the way forward IMHO ...

same thing here. my b&w matrix 800s had 6 wooden crates. quite huge too, and heavy. i couldn't really carry one of them by myself. in the end, there was no room inside the house to place those 6 crates so i had to put them along the side corridor of my house which is open and subject to rain, sun and dust. after a few years, i would have paid anyone to haul them out of my sight.

and talking about expensive audio stuffs with 'sub par' packaging, take a look at koetsu. plain wooden box, no factory seal. no tools included. no small paper manual or spec sheet. no warranty certificate and no outer box for better protection from physical impact. all it has is a plastic stylus protector. and if you just bought the blue lace platinum with diamond cantilever, that's around $20,000. and the wooden box isn't the most sturdy or hardest of wood. i think i could crush it with my fist if i wanted to. but heck, none of my customers ever complained about it. :D

+1.

the b&w 800 dealer sent 3 guys and the head honcho came very well equipped. he got the most important thing - an electric power screwdriver. looking at such a 'tiring' scene may have unconsciously driven me to the Maggies. I can do anything myself with it without panting. :D

My Pelicans for my cameras and vacuum tubes are built in a way in which you manually pull out blocks of foam to hopefully get the right fit. Aside from water protection I don't see how this could be better than having foam precisely molded for every contour. At any rate, I like the idea even if being in a country that rains a third of the year, we've had no water issues. KNOCK ON WOOD!!!!!!!!!!! From a business perspective the added bling really might help sales. We all know that you can't please everybody though. For every guy that wants a nice box there will be another that will say it is wasteful and would rather have had the money spent on what's inside.

Sorry to hear about the wireless system. Man that truly sucks the big one. I think all manufacturers should anticipate the delivery conditions. In our case, all our freight companies were recommended by the suppliers themselves. We have a very large speaker system coming in this year. We're coordinating everything from plant to site including the specialized movers. When we deliver electronics they don't go in our trucks because our roads are bad. They go in the back of BMW or Ford SUVs. Our broker delivers our goods to us, pallets on thick industrial quilts.

yeah I'm considering a 10x20 storage locker rental just to store stereo equipment boxes and crates and other related gear no longer used.

And even the least expensive Wilson's come in crates! ;)

My big pass amps came in strong double cardboard boxes. The first shipment was damaged with them sent by freight monkey's on a pallet. The second set arrived safely in 4 separate boxes 150lb each by UPS unscathed.

Can you imagine if the locker went on Storage Wars? Their eyes would pop out of their skulls seing X-2 and XS crates only to find they are all empty! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!

oh it seem like next time i buy my car it must come with perlican case !!!! , hey come on what we talking here !!!

yes perlican is good but that for my leica and 100 nikon stuff . i think will very heavy it it make for AF1 . by the way this not the point

just take a look at two picture

1 japanese TDK fancy turntable box. with use with my 500 usd turntable.

2 six standard box follow
1 on the left 15k accuphase phono preamp and below is techdas turntable box and upper is 20k transparent opus mm2 box
2 on the right start with my 30k moon 850 preamp box and lower is burmester 20k phono preamp and the last is 5k ps audio power plant box.

what do you think ? i think it the same and standard box !!! compare to fancy box from TDK (this is what is mention )
by the way every box do their best duty , that it . it may some guy need to say that roll royce car have to use perlican box for shipping around the world .
and i'm sure that you will not see because i see only plastic cover the car with the best transport company with good handle and insurance.

for everything i just want to say how the box are if it arrived safely that it , and i'm will not collect my all big box in my listen room too!!!

by the way it sound ridiculous to say this point of this turntable , but some guy started so story should be end before somebody say you are crazy to say about this crazy box title !!!!! or we should open beautiful hifi box award contest !!!!

I was being facetious :)
