How would you describe them? Before buying them were you able to hear them with different amps?

Steve59-
clean, detailed, but very musical, I‘m running them with audio research ref 6 pre and 160M mono blocks. But listened to them at my local shop in Royal oak Michigan for almost 6 months. At least 15 times. I heard them with Nagra classic amp, nagra Hd amp, audia flight Strumento N°4 mk2, and the Strumento N°8, Accuphase E-800 intergraded and at least one other tube amp but can’t remember the name.

I heard them in a very large room at axpona. was surprised at how well they filled the room as they are not a oversize speaker. You should definitely go listen but I have seen the lower end Tidal range priced close i what would try to audition them to.

Great post and great to have a place to talk about Vimbergs.
I’ve been waiting to hear the Amea in my small listening room as the Mino or Tidal Piano (also great by the way) are unfortunately too large.
Hopefully a home demo this month, lockdown notwithstanding..

I have heard the Amea a few times. Fantastic detail but I felt like they needed subs. Heard them with and without subs. The subs were rel g1 MK2. If I was in a small room they would have been one to look at for me.

3125Simon - what size is your room ?

My room is not large by any means. 14’ x 15. My last speakers were Focal Sopra 2’s. I always felt felt like I should have gotten the Sopra 3’s. This time around I didn’t want to have any regrets.

My current room is 9 x 13 long, so small. my current speakers are Sonus Faber Guarneri Evo and they integrate well in the room and with acoustic music and jazz can sound fantastic.

But on anything rock like or amplified, the bass is too soft and slow and does not have the right impact to drive the music....

I’m using Vitus electronics (SIA 25 / SCD) and a Avid Acutus with a Koetsu Urushi so to a certain extent I’ve gone for a rather warm sound, which on the kind off late night jazz and female vocals I enjoy, it can sound very good. But too much of a good thing on faster paced music.

I’ve tried various floor standing speakers - Avalon (PM1/Transendent), Magico S1/2 and YG Carmel 2, but there is too much bass and you have a boom plus they don’t do what my SF G EVO can do on jazz and female vocals.....
I have been wondering if trying a sub with my EVO might fill in the bottom and add some PRAT to the bass... but I’ve no experience on what a sub will bring, and I don’t want any boom or overhang.
My room is well treated, but the laws of physics cannot make up for the size.....
the faster and cleaner Amea I hope will mate with the room and give me what I’m looking for...

....I have heard them at Doug White's house outside of Philadelphia. Great speakers created by a designer genius....superb craftsmanship..A REL sub will mate perfectly with the Area...

Thanks for the feedback.
I’ve now had the Amea at home for an extended demo and they worked really well - fast, neutral, detailed and musical......but while the bass was ok, the overall sound was a little lean, at least to my ears coming from the warm Sonus Faber....so I felt I would need a sub or two.

I was conflicted about the sub - extra complexity, more space required to fit the subs, how would the integrate etc, etc....

But then discussion with my dealer, I tried a pair of Tidal Piano G2, which I had discounted as being too large and as a 2-1/2 way too much energy for my small room.

After a few weeks of having the Piano’s at home, they worked really well, even with the bass boast - significantly more resolution than the Amea, with a more full sound, huge stage and palpable image, even in my small room.....

The Vitus gives some class A warmth to further open the sound..... fantastic...
so in the end I purchased an ex-demo set of Piano G2’s that are probably an end point speaker for me and will only improve when I move to a larger room I having built next year, which the Amea would have been maybe too small.......

Amea is a great speaker and by far the best stand mount I’ve listened too and great at the price if you can shop in this price range....

The Piano G2s are great speakers and much better than the Ameas....which they should be as they are the true Tidal designs...You should love them forever. Enjoy the MUSIC..

Hi Guys,
I've been looking for some time to build a new system from scratch and I've been scratching my head to find the right speakers.
Given my room size, I should be looking at bookshelf/stand-mount speakers but I've always kind of found them lacking something plus I like the look of floor-standers better.
I've had the same experience again last week listening to Magico A1. Something was lacking. Then we switched to the A3 and immediately I found the added presence and weight more to my taste.
As much as I would like to get the Mino's, sadly they're too big and deep for my room. I had discounted the Amea until after auditioning a few speakers I think I'm would now be ready to compromise and get bookshelves to get the Vimberg sound.

I have to audition Magico S1 MkII next week but I found on the previous Magico audition that it sounded like hifi and not like music if you know what I mean while I believe the Vimberg's will sound more natural.

So the question is what did your guys think about the Amea's in general? Do they still sound like bookshelves? ie lacking a bit of presence and heft?

Cheers,

Steph

Hi all another Tidal owner here with the Preos D and will soon be upgrading my Vitus RS101 to the newer smaller Tidal Intra and a pair of Amea’s. The only reason I’ve went for the Amea’s is that they’re going upstairs so trying to get any bigger speakers up there isn’t the easiest. In fact trying to get Vitus up there was a job in itself. So apart from my TT from Amg my Dac/Preamp, Amp and speakers will all be from Tidal so I’m hoping for more of a balanced sound rather than mixing components from different companies. Hope to report back next month on how they’re working out.

Congratulations- the Amea is a great speaker and sound much larger than its dimensions would suggest...
Fully understand about carrying large boxes upstairs —- I have a new Tidal pre power waiting delivery, but I’ll wait until I finish my new room on the ground floor...::
Your new Tidal Intra will be the icing on the cake....
Let us know how you get on...

Simon I had a Vitus SCD/025 as well as an Allnic H7000 Phono Stage But I traded them in for the Preos and the Vitus RS101 Power Amp, the only things I don’t like on the Preos are the digital inputs are all Spdif and no Balanced Inputs its unbalanced ones.
