I have it up with

Gec B65 pair

And it sounds sweet! Indeed better than the Pacific!

+1

The differences are not subtle.

Crazy…. This Pac is crazy good and better as it settles…. I believe you but dont comprehend. Baffled…. I submitted an email to begin the discussion…..

Haha Steve agreeing w/ you Golum.

Lukasz may have said it best in post 293 on Dec 13, 2021:
"Concerning the comparison to Pacific: I would say that the new tube section delivers more slamm, more PRAT, more legible soundscene, deeper stage, wider and higher boundaries of soundstage, better thread separation while the "togetherness" of musicians is also improved. Bass goes deeper and more bass nuances are there. The output impedance is much lower, making the amp interaction easier and bass better.

The digital section will add to it much higher resolution, extreme naturalness, human dimension to vocals, hair rising "you are there" factor. I dont wanna over-shoot here, but I would say the price difference perfectly reflects the superiority of the Horizon."

He later boiled it down to:
"The shortest description is: Horizon was designed for people, who think they hate digital, and who think they hate tubes."

You guys are torturing me!! This Horizon sounds (over used word) "Amazing" John

What is the cost to replace the tubes that come with the Horizon? John

John
The tubes are the least of your concerns. They will last a very very long time in the Horizon. If you get the tube rolling disease, it still won't cost you a lot of money, especially compared to the $44K Euro price of the Horizon. They can range from $75 dollars to $1.3k for the likes of a Western Electric 274B tube.

I think stock still pushes the envelope beyond most dacs now. then tune tone other ways
too many jump tubes ina and out and never adjust tone before.
