The best 5 speakers that you have had

Those grapes a rem probably sour anyway. ;)

I ve had Avalon Avatar Dynaudio Confidence series and various Designs of my own making .
I am at a bit of a standstill right now .
The bass is exactly how i want it , as is housing material and tonal balance / coherence.
Im basically where i want it to be ,with some refinements only

Which system are you playing atm?
MBL omnis or your new old love the ML Statements?
Statements are still in setup phase, but sounding very good, just effortless dynamic and holographic ! My room needs som adjustments ! MBL are temporary retired .

my 'best' 5 speakers i have had in my system's over the years;

these first three are all Kevin Malmgren designs.

--2012--present day---Evolution Acoustics MM7 Twin Towers, 3rd pair built. no technical limits to what they are capable of. the definition of 'full range' in the truest sense. somewhat conceptualized for my particular room.

---2005---2012---Evolution Acoustics MM3, 2nd pair built. listened to it's prototype for a number of years prior to arrival. great value and full range. powered bass. ceramic mid range.

---2004--2005---Von Schwiekert VR9SE---powered bass, rear firing tweeter. ultra dynamic. full range.

---2001---2004---Kharma Exquisite 1D. amazingly inert cabinet. 52 inches tall, but 500 pounds. very coherent and musical. along with the Tenor 75 watt OTL amplifiers, defined the basic sonic viewpoint and preferences i still have today. i could plunk that system down in my room right now and be living large.

---Wilson WATT Puppy's----3/2 (1994---1997), 5.1 (1997-1999), 6.0 (1999-2001), a fine speaker which was more about the parts than the whole. and it had many positive attributes. but my choices of a Mark Levinson signal path was not helpful. and my own level of understanding another part.. but one could live happy ever after with a Levinson/Wilson match, but.....there is more to be found if you are looking. and i was looking around in 2001 since i was not satisfied.

Are you happy with your current Piega?

I am not negative but just curious. :)

I would like to have Quad ESL but no close encounter.
They're very good speakers but I'm in that mode at the moment where I want to try something different. Over the last 6 months or so I've tried Khorns, Valencias, and VOTT A7s. I've enjoyed them all but not enough to keep them ahead of the C40s. I'm thinking about La Scalas next or something from Volti Audio....who knows! LOL

Exactly what I expected ;)

I had driven Watt Puppy 4 by Jadis 500 at 1999 but it sound so detailed and hot.

Thus I let it go after six months.

If I had DSP, I may be able to tame the sound.

Lots of exotica, thought I would lower the tone a little :)
This is not a best list - they are the only speakers I have owned (over 40+ years). I still have them all, bar the BC1's (which I very much wish I still had).
In alphabetical order:
Monitor Audio R852MD
Spendor BC1
Spendor SA1
Tannoy Mercury MX2
Yamaha NS1000M
All great,, entertaining speakers (in my opinion) and impressive in their own right, though none are perfect (I don't believe a perfect speaker exists). The little Tannoys, the cheapest, were perhaps the biggest surprise - no speaker costing so little has a right to sound as good as these do (paid £75 new).

1. Talon Firebird Diamond Tweeter
Exceptional speaker in my opinion a Kharma Exquisite killer for less price, whit a 15 inch Focal Subbase driver Ceramic midrange driver and a Diamond tweeter.

2.Rockport Hyperion
Some of the best Rockport speaker the Dynaudio Esotar tweeter in this speaker is the best (except horn tweeters and Plasma tweeter by Lansche) conventional speaker tweeter i know very full body open sparkling rich natural high frequency spectrum, i still do not understand how a brand like Rockport is gone wrong direction whit the Beylium tweeter hype while leaving this masterpiece Dynaudio Esotar tweeter....?

3.Sonus Faber Stradivari
You cant go wrong whit this speaker very musical and allround speaker great for Vocals and Opera.

4. Peak Consult Dragon Legend

In my few this great speaker is a Clone of the Rockport Hyperion same Dapolito configuration same topology same brand drivers exept the tweeter(!) The only area where this speaker betters the Rockport Hyperion speaker is the Bass better 15 inch Carbon Audio Technology drivers reproduce some faster and deeper Bass but in other areas Midrange Rockport is little better and the treble is no way a contender to the Dynaudio Estotar tweeter of the Rockport Hyperion.

5. Sonus Faber Fenice (the sonus faber)
There where 30 pairs made in total of this prestige speakers best of best components cabinet drivers crossover parts are used it will give you all you want the intimacy of a Studio Monitor and the Dynamics of a Horn Speaker and a upper-bass low mid region to die for.

And the breaking news is my next speakers will be the mighty ALSYVOX RAFAELLO looking forward getting them soon.....

If the Sonus Faber had all these attributes that appear to combine the best of several worlds, what are the weaknesses if you are looking for other speakers?

Great! We will be looking forward to your report. Maybe start a thread.

ARC VT100. I was using the the CJ Premier 11a at the time. That was a highly underrated amp.
