A new signature ...

I’m still waiting breathlessly for the announcement mighty Pilium is landed and cleared customs. What was supposed to be an August 4 arrival was pushed to today August 7, but no notice yet of arrival. I expect Monday or Tuesday I’ll drive to the airport to retrieve the pallet of audio goodness.

But, just yesterday a nice box of new Shunyata power cables came in. I had 20amp (c19) connections for the ARC gear, needed 15amp for the Pilium. I chose to stick with Shunyata, I appreciate the Shunyata approach. Other possibilities will be explored at some future time. Decided to upgrade a couple others, so my rig will be tethered with:

1) a pair of Sigma NR v2 for the Achilles amp, direct to a pair of dedicated 20 circuits.
2) a Sigma XC cable from the wall (another dedicated circuit) to my Triton v3 conditioner.
3) an Alpha NR v2 cable from the Triton to the Pilium Alexander pre-amp
4) an Alpha NR v2 cable from the Triton to my dCS Rossini DAC
5) a pair of Venom NR v2 cables to supply AC to the AMG turntable power supply and the CS Port phono stage. The CS Port is battery powered phono, so AC only to charge the battery and not part of audio circuitry.

With my room disassembled I added a couple more dedicated circuits. I previously had two, for the amps and for the source gear. But both my ARC monos ran to the same single 20amp circuit. Now the Pilium Achilles stereo amp will have a pair of dedicated circuits feeding it. It is truely a pair of amps in a single chassis, requiring two power cords. There are even two switches! The other dedicated circuit will ultimately separate my digital gear from the other sources.

(I have a few Shunyata NR v1 cables for sale, used, if anyone is interested PM me.)

Mostly that I appreciate the scientific approach (observable, measurable, quantifiable) to noise reduction, without extra hoo-ha and "quantum" gibberish. (Some might debate the DTCD proprietary measurement technique.) And, like footers and isolation devices attempt to reduce energy that is produced within a component, and prevent entry from outside the component, Shunyata (it seems to me) tries to do this within the realm of electricity, not just remove what extra noise is on the incoming line, but preventing it from passing between components on the same circuit.

Our systems sound better when extraneous energy is controlled and/or eliminated, and that extraneous energy comes in several forms. Shunyata's approach seems to be control the excess energy without hindering current flow.

Lots of power products out there. I've not tried them all, or even very many. Every time I upgraded to another level of Shunyata product I've had good results.

I see. That indeed is a solid philosophy. Eliminating redundant forces and effects is one of the main challenge streams in the audio industry. It is crucial to understand not only the audio system but the environment around it as well, I couldn't agree more. Thank you for clarifying the matter.

Ugh, still no notice Pilium has made it to Portland, but it did at least make JFK. On the other hand, Diesis were due to arrive Portland today, meaning customs clearance next week and possibly delivery. It isn’t bad Pilium and Diesis will arrive together, I’ll have reason to assemble the rig. Alsyvox can’t be too far behind. The whole global supply chain issue has messed with shipping schedules in a big way… as soon as you’re convinced of one thing, another thing gets in the way.

The Bayz are not due until early September.

At least running in solid state components won’t burn through tube life just to get to nirvana. I am pretty convinced my ARC components really didn’t fully settle before 1000 hours. They sounded damn good after 600 hrs, but still I think weren’t fully mature before 1000. With the size of the big caps in the Achilles amp, it’ll be a while until the full sonic picture emerges. Matthew Clott, of Absolute Sound, gave a nice nod to Pilium as his “ultra-reference” in the latest issue Golden Ear awards.

Anticipation is killing me… bring on the audio goodies!;)

So the moral of the story is don't put those expensive 6H30DR tubes in your ARC gear until after 1000 hours! :)

My sense is that customs is one of the choke points in the global supply chain. It's good they check stuff, but sometimes it takes forevah.

Just a little tease... Here's the Diesis Roma setup in the Rhapsody-Out-West listening room.

And more excitement to come... the Alsyvox Botticelli and external crossovers have just landed in my garage.

My Pilium Achilles amp is a couple weeks out, but in the meantime I've borrowed a pair of MBL amps to get some electrons flowing through the Roma and running them in a little. Even at this early stage, my prior Wilson Alexia are disappearing in the rear-view mirror. They've been kicked to the curb with a steel-toed boot and lay there, whimpering and defeated. I will have a lot more to say in the future, but the Roma — oh-my-my! It is going to be an excellent listening season.

Bob can you please say the MSRP on the base level Diesis Roma. tia
Hi Tim,

Diesis offers speakers starting at $29,000.

Roma Triode in USA is $179,900.
Roma is $99,900
Caput Mundi $59,900
Aura $39,900
Ludos $29,900
Bonham tribute dipole sub-woofer (21") with electronic crossover, $14,900
Evento Integrated amp, $29,900, with DAC $34,900

Prices include international air shipping, import duties, and installation.

Roma Triode is 99db efficient and can be driven with 4 watt SET, or big SS. Both sound amazing. All hand-made Italian works of art Ebony wood for the horn and baffle. Custom wood choices are also available.

”Roma“ is 98 db efficient. Plays big, much more capable of scaling for full orchestra than my Wilsons were.

Very nice Bob ! What MBL amps are you borrowing ? The larger ones can be run using only one of the multiple transformer and capacitor banks, with efficient speakers like yours. Flip only the first ON switch one each mono amp. :)

It does require more power. That's why their own amp is hybrid and the absolare on it did much better in pentode than in triode, and had more oomph than ongaku.
