P.s.: my HERMES not yet received, because he had some leak issue with his home made capacitors
But will be on his way next week..
Thank you Gerald nice to hear from you. Even with the delay some exciting listening ahead!!
There are several Psyche customers including myself, on the wait list in the Great southern lands of Oz keen to here developments so thank you for the link. Leaky caps aside I will jest toward the obvious humor (if connected) from the previous posts referring to our propensity for alcohol consumption and presume the problems will be sorted out soon.
Greetings and melting moments from Australia as we are in a heat wave and look forward to updates on the Hermes soon.

I got my Abbas Psyche about ten days ago and it is amazing. Huge sound stage and black background. The transients explode out of the back ground. The instruments have more air around them. I like the AES/EBU connection much better than the SPDIF connection. I very happy with it.

Thank you for your initial comments! I can't wait for my Psyche Signature to arrive! I've been very much enjoying my 2.2 SE and have heard Artnet's 3.2 in my system many times. Even the 2.2 is wonderful with the right tubes and is so musically engaging. The 3.2 was just more of everything (image size, weight, scale, presence etc.) and the Psyche should be another big improvement.
Interesting your experience re AES/EBU vs the SPdif connection. My favourite connection in my systems with the Abbas 2.2 SE, 4.1 SE and 3.2 have all been with ABBAS' USB/SPDIF converter. It was a huge upgrade over using the coaxial connection with each of those dac's.
How do you find your experience of listening to it compared to other dac's and sources in your system?
I notice you mentioned in another thread that you were helping in the Semrad audio room at the recent audio show. Can you share any thoughts on the Semrad speakers? I would love to hear your thoughts as I have recently been playing with some Rullit Aero 8 field coil drivers and really love what they do in my system and find them also so emotionally engaging. They have been a wonderful though very different experience to my main large horn system.
When I owned the EMIA silver transformer pre I really enjoyed it. I probably should have kept it longer but fell in love with a couple of other volume solutions. I could definitely think that a different combination of power amps to all the ones I own could easily have made it my preferred choice.

Hi LPG,
This is the best DAC I’ve ever owned. My previous DAC was an Aqua La Scala. I also play tape and LPs. I like the digital source better than tape and LPs.
I think John’s horns with EMIA silver electronics are hard to beat. The horns have a wonderful nuanced sound. They have an ease about them that is so inviting.
Dave Slagle’s (EMIA) electronics are stunning. I’ve used his equipment for almost 25 years and swear by them.

Congratulations John on the new arrival, looks fantastic, thank you for the pics. Very exciting and wish you happy listening. Love the marble front and wow to those transformers.

Thank you so much for answering my questions John.
Wow! That's a high marker indeed preferring it to your tape and vinyl sources. When I was playing with tape a few years ago it really sent me down the rabbit hole. I spent what felt like a fortune looking for never ending reels, purchasing / listening to Barkley Crocker tapes, tape project reels, safety masters and a lot of bootleg stuff (some of which supposedly genuine i'm sure were literal dubs from CD. There was less tape available then than now and i was constantly trying to find an ever harder to source combo of reels that sounded great and also be musically worthwhile. Paying at times up to $1000 Aussie (6-$700 USD) for a reel and still not always being happy really made me lose interest in the hobby for a while.
Looking forward to hearing about your ongoing journey with the Psyche as it continues to run in and you start to play around with tube combinations etc. I love how responsive his dac's are to tube choices and other tweaks in the system.
I decided on the wooden front faceplate for mine but your marble front looks stunning.

I went down the tape rabbit hole about three years ago and had a great time. Some of the tapes were incredible. Some friends got me involved with digital again in February of this year. I hadn’t listened to CDs much in the last five or six years.
One friend brought over an Abbas DAC. I think 3.2 signature. I was really impressed so I ordered the Psyche. Another friend brought over an Aqua La Diva transport and I was shocked how good it was so I ordered one. In the beginning I thought I could get really good sound with the latest digital equipment but I was surprised when many regular Red book CDs sounded better than most of my tapes and LPs. Who knew?

There is the 3.21SE still available or the newer 3.22SE is now under the Psyche name still running the CS8414 receiver chip running at 24/96 but some interesting changes to Tubes used and the newer evolved pc boards for Psyche, Hermes collection.
The change to higher resolution to the Wolfson receiver chip (24/192) appears in the signature range and run cost wise (currently) $8200 to $8600 small but expected price increase and not currently available due to orders I think and available hours of work given the circumstances not surprising.
Additional options of balanced out and stone front are on request but you would need to check with Abbas on the costs once the Signature models become available again.
I am mighty keen to compare the Psyche signature to my 3.2SE but can only imagine the 3.22SE being a terrific value option for any curious ears
here we go...after 11 months (and customs challenges), the new beauty is in the town, since yesterday ;-)
ABBAS AUDIO - HERMES DAC 6080 (PCM63K-J) with 1xRCA & 1xXLR analog output, 1x S/PDIF and 1x AES/EBU digital output
Note: I've already the TDA1541a from him, therefore I opted in for the Burr Brown. That's why also different power stages & tubes.
I also opted out for the green marble front plate and he made some black one (think it is granite)
First impressions (yes, I'm fully Abbas-biased) :
- Outstanding build quality!
- His handmade capacitors - craftsmanship at its best!
- Delivered tubes I've replaced with:
- 2x 5U4GB Fiver, NOS O-GETTER LONG BOTTLE 1960
- 1x 5U4G Mullard, NOS (will try to use my new Crytone 5U4G later)
- 2x 6080 G.E.C. NOS UK NOS-NIB blackplate
- 1x E88CC Telefunken, Diamond Bottom ULM NOS
Have great christmas holidays, with a lot of relaxing music!
Gerald
Note: I can anyone encourage to use google translate and to watch what else Abbas is doing! He is quite a nerd and really testing a lot!
Like his current filed coil madness ;-) https://abbasaudio.listbb.ru/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2869
Wow Gerald, Congratulations looks amazing and think you will be having a fun Christmas.
I have opted for the green stone front but the black looks rather good!
Maybe some listening and tube rolling comments from you in the new year?
Regards Stephen
