Boulder amp from hell...

Hi

I have not heard the MRA. I have heard however the KRS-200 and the KAS-200..IOW I suspect the MRA, KRS and KAS would still kick some butts out there including any and all Krell Evo and many of today highly touted amps. These amps were masterpieces

I had a pair of KSA200S (active bi-amp and then passive bi-amp setups) during more than 12 years before swapping to the Evolution One. This is a total different league (night and day actually but not the same budget though): soundstage, tonal balance, bass control, spead, details etc.

I also had regular auditions of the KAS which are the previous iteration of the Evolution One. There as well, the improvements are substantial.

I would not even think looking back.

I've seen a better inside MRA picture from a German magazine.

The caps used is a snap-in pin type custom made by Nippon chemi-con.
48 of them 8800 uF each charged by 160V - 5400 joule.

Sh-t! That is some serious power!

+1000 (1 for every watt per channel into 8ohms! ;) )

And very heavy too. I've seen an sales ad for a pair of MRA.
Actual weight is 273 kg and shipping weight is 310 kg.

I know of 3 pair of MRA FS now.
Maybe I should buy a pair of them - connect them to two 63A power lines so they can deliver 16 KW of power.

Actually 32A lines are enough to take full advantage of them in standard configuration. In standard configuration they will not drive loads below 1 Ohm of security reasons. You need to install a software patch called "The Key" to unlock the ability to deliver 16KW into 0.5 Ohm. No pair has yet had "The Key" installed.

The last pair I saw on Agon was about 2 years ago...asking USD45K. What are they going for now?

As I wrote earlier they are 3.3 Farad each monoblock. Check the Krell MRA brochure.

That's must be the owners manual.
I haven't seen this farad spec anywhere.

But powerful it is deliver 300V peak output voltage in 8 and 4 ohms.
AD Apollo can deliver up to 250V and Krell Evo 900e 240V.

I don't see how an amplifier can deliver 300 volts in a 4 ohms load Ohms ... I just can't see how .. It would require the amp to be capable of 22,500 watts peak at 4 ohms ...

I suspect it's 300 V peak-to-peak based on +/-150 V rails, about 2800 W into 4 ohms. Still awfully impressive... If it was peak voltage, not RMS or pp, then double for a peak output of 5600 W into 4 ohms. If I did the math right, best check it...

1. Thanks!
2. Hilarious how small the 750 monos look!
3. Is that amplification anywhere near necessary for those speakers? I was expecting something like gigantic 1ohm Apogees or something that would kill a lesser amp.

I want to know what speakers these are driving!

I want to know how these beasts sound! If the first watt is s0-so, the next 2,000 will be so-so.

I think the 750mcx was the direct production line descendant of the MRAs...wish is probably a good sign these could well be the best sounding amps D D'A ever designed at Krell...at least for those who felt the 750mcx was one of his best sounding amps which i have read many people say.

Makes my wonder what is the heaviest, low power amp out there? Weight vs. wattage! (or current, SNR, etc..)

Robert Koda Takumi K70 is 176 lbs in 3 big blocks (1,000 watts of consumption)...for 70 watts. so not low powered...but quite heavy.
