We've done this several times on my CRT forum regarding CRT projectors: If you had to design a reel to reel from the ground up, using the best bits and pieces that come stock from the various manufacturers, what would you use from the various manufacturers? Please keep this thread for stock stuff only, I'll start another one for you guys that have tweaked like crazy, and want to use aftermarket preamps, etc.

On this thread, my contribution would be the Akai glass heads. In all the Akais I've had through here, RTR and cassette, I've only ever had one with one open winding. These heads never wear out, allowing people to literally play their tapes 24/7 if they so desire.
