Golden Ear - Triton (closer to the) Reference

I let my speakers play music for a week straight at low volume. I think during that time they did open up more, got more detailed, more layering and more coherent. I'm sure a lot of that was me getting use to the new sound but at the same time I was changing my speakers location some to get them setup correctly. I found that in my room if I positioned my speakers to cross in front of me it sounds the best. Any other position I tried was just like i was moving the sound of the tweeters around. When I got the speakers set where they cross in front of me it unlocked all the midbase and midrange. It's just sounds much more natural in my room this way. I have had the speakers setup this way and several other ways before the upgrade. I have said all the positive things the upgrade had done i other posts on here and after hearing the difference for about a month now I still feel the same way and probably more so. This upgrade is well worth the time and cost if you have a system that is being held back because the T-Refs are not as good as your system. It takes a very good system to hear all the good things that come from this upgrade. But if you have that system you will be greatly rewarded.

Thanks for the update Mark, it seems we have similar impressions of improvements in sound with break-in. Good to read your impression.

Regarding your angling of the speaker, this is a good indication of trying out all kinds of placements, angling etc and suddently we have something that works. With your reference to the midbass I’m guessing that you found a sweetspot in the speakers interaction with the room. Our frequency response is greatly affected by the room up to around 200hz or so and sometimes just small tweaks on speaker placement can change a lot. It’s quite educational to make small ajustments in speaker positioning while measuring the frequency response from the listening position.

This was recommended to my Youtube playlist today. It's not about T-Refs, but kind of interesting:

Mikko, thank you for sharing this interesting video. I suspect that the original crossovers although built to a price point were well designed and good enough to earn multiple Stereophile Class A recommended full range speakers multiple times.
That being said, it's possible that our impressions of our upgraded crossovers may be different then our original expectations.
Speaking for myself, I increased the subwoofer volume post installation, going from 9 o'clock to the default 12 o'clock, that resulted in an increase in depth, clarity and body to the music. In my estimation, a good speaker has been made better. Enjoy the music.

There are many, many who does not believe parts matter. The video you share Mikka supports their view on things.

I follow Danny / GR Research on youtube, he has real skills, spends time explaining things, and personally I also likes his dry Texas humor. He seems to get a lot of comments and hate from people who don’t believe parts matter, and think he is ripping customers off by selling them expensive parts, that does not make a difference. He refers to them as ‘’flat earthers’’.

I guess we have must make up our own minds on this.

The best of course is to test for ourselves and use our ears to understand more. Hearing is believing…

I personally believe that quality of the parts definitely do matter, despite that video does not support that view. There's now quite many earwitness' testimony here how the upgrade changes T-Refs, all of them very consistent.
I'm also enjoying Danny's videos in Youtube. He often flattens bumps on the frequency response, but that was not necessary when it comes to T-Refs.
I would be still interested in hearing @Markuzz experiment if he has tried using different caps in the Tweeter (post#192) and finalized his measurements.

My plan is to go ahead with the upgrade later this year with new connector posts and probably will try inserting felt around the tweeter, too.

Mikko, just to clarify about the capacitor in the tweeter section:

We all use the same tweeter capacitor, it's a Jantzen Audio - Alumen Z type. What Markuzz has in his filter (ordered from Tony Gee) is a Duelund bypass capacitor. This is a tiny small value capacitor, that goes in parallel with the tweeter capacitor. You can read Tony Gees comments on these bypass caps on his website: https://www.humblehomemadehifi.com/Cap.html They are not cheap, but you might find it worth the investment.

I have these Duelund bypass caps in stock also, but I decided against using it in this filter... No particular reason, just my choice.

The major difference Markuzz did was choosing a different internal cable than the Furutech the rest of us use. Initially he reported some brightness, but mentioned this is normal for the cable he choose. So hopefully that is gone with break in.
