Golden Ear - Triton (closer to the) Reference

He recommended some sort of a metal crimp for the joint subwoofer leads to facilitate soldering it to the lugs.
I was just referring to this comment… Twisting the wires is easier, than installing a metal crimp, no extra parts needed.

Soldering them seperately as he did is perfectly fine of course, just more difficult. And I assume it was because it was difficult he recommended some sort of metal crimp?

Yes, I agree, I thought that was a curious suggestion, but, he's the expert. Eventually, he went with the split solder on both sides of the lugs which seems to be pretty secure. Overall, very happy with his soldering work and the crossover quality. Sound impressions forthcoming.

What he did works perfectly fine, just difficult… Soldering the first one is easy, then when soldering the second one to the same lug, the first one tends to melt again and break loose and so on and so forth. Great that he got it done and that you have your speakers back together.

For others I just suggest twisting the wires. Easy to do, easy to solder.

I agree, once and done. I'm not sure what his thinking was in that regard. After all, I could have held the wires for him in place while he soldered. We did find 2 slight air leaks from the sub woofer section to the MTM box that had to be fixed, otherwise, it was time consuming but straight forward. Oh well, all's good.

Finally, got the speakers done on Saturday pm and have been listening to them since. In a word, the sound is absolutely lovely. Wider, deeper sound stage, pinpoint imaging, clarity, ease, relaxed presentation, detail and a greater sense of bloom to the music.

I found them to play a little louder so I had to re calibrate my integrated amplifier volume. If you like the Reference sound you'll just be getting more of it with this upgrade. Definitely, happy that I took the leap.

I am a big believer in treating the room, so here are some pictures of my Home theater, music listening room. Enjoy the music.

Crap parts has no value as such, and the crossover only works for T Ref’s.

If you want to do something good for someone, then give the crossovers to a T Ref owner how (for some reason) would like to have a set of crossovers as spareparts.
