Thanks Marc, I do get your position but I do believe that genuinely what I am asking is fundamentally a question of the essential compass of society and not any specific niches or anything political. I believe we are on tipping point as a species and our behaviour needs to transcend politics and become more essentially real and aware that as a species we need a greater survival that can only come from a kind loving and caring union of the whole. It is simply more philosophy than politics. We do need to transcend the division of politics and act wholly and collectively now more so than ever.

Perhaps if we all get coronavid and start becoming flesh eatin zombies it will all prove moot. This has been such a horrendous start to the decade. So many people are being challenged and the vulnerable are all of us it now it seems so it is indeed something of an equaliser. But division is not something we need or can afford. Change comes at its own velocity. I do believe we now need to develop fundamentally new approaches to life if we now want to keep living. Our principle focus needs to become protecting the planet and all life. This isn’t politics, this is just the conscious development of the whole.

If the US doesn't quarantine for the flu why would it quarantine for the coronavirus? One argument for quarantining is that we really don't know enough yet as to how deadly or virulent it is and people have no real protection against it other than their own immune system. But, as the data continues to develop it does not seem as though it is that much worse, if at all, than the seasonal flu with respect to mortality rates or illness severity. I would say that anyone who is "at risk" should self quarantine. I think that would also be the case with the seasonal flu.

CV cases continue to increase in the UK and now about 350 with 5 deaths.
One bit of welcome news is that the flu epidemic peaked last month and there has been a significant decrease in hospital admissions since then so hospitals better able to deal with Covid 19 cases.
This whole episode reminds me of a TV interview back in the early 1960s when the then Prime Minister, Harold Macmillan was asked by David Frost what he feared most.

Fink urged the public to avoid any large gatherings, such as sporting events and concerts.

“I believe that all schools should be closed immediately and classes conducted online, which is relatively simple,” he wrote. “I know that so far, children infected with CV have done relatively well, but they might come home and hug Grandpa, who won’t do so well.”

They will never have a reliable statistic for that. There is no way to definitely determine how someone was infected.

Yes, but yesterday it was just old people, I've read three different articles today about younger people, being very affected or younger people becoming infected and passing it on to more susceptible elders.

My only point is that this is an evolving situation and we are in un-chartered waters with seemingly daily new challenges - country lockdowns, falling economy etc.

Whether it's the media to blame or just hysteric people, the effects are becoming sobering. I can see/feel it out on the streets or in the subways. Things are different now.

Hopefully the "data" is accurate. I personally don't believe in anything right now, trust any news outlets or what anyone says. Reason, because every day there are new developments that differ from the day before.

I have no idea who Fink even is, but if he is a doctor, which I would think he is, and he's been treating the flu for 30 years and he says that he is more worried about this more than ever in his past, it's one tiny data point, from someone on the front lines, dealing with patients. Nothing more than a tiny data point, but it is contradictory to most other things I've heard over the last few days.
