DaVa FC-A1 a field coil contender

More mono jazz

Cmchan's videos with the Dava Soul, Esoteric turntable, Durand Tosca, these are with Slagle SUT, EMT phono, dartzeel pre and 108v2, Verity Lohengrin

Are extremely good. He is using an app on iphone called Voice Record.

I have heard Lohengrin many times. It has a soft, smooth sound, but on the videos, the sound is nuanced with small dynamics and lively, better than I expected in my opinion. Is this due to the records being played or the cartridge?

Dava is the most dynamic cartridge that I know. The records are also excellent. I like Verity, it has a very good midrange and coherence. You are right that the speaker DNA is a bit soft in the highs, and Dava will balance that and add liveliness. I haven't heard the Soul in person, but the Dava Reference and basic definitely would

Thank you for the explanation. I like Lohengrin too but I prefer any Kharma Exquisite or Estellon Diamond X instead.

The interesting thing that happened is Cmchan also shared these two videos the day before. They did not sound that good. Then he changed the setting and sent me the next day, I got excited listening to the videos. I asked him what had changed. He said the VTF was increased and VTA adjusted too. I sent both pairs to Bill and he too loved the set with the better setting.

Videos are amazing insights. What was posted above, is second set with the preferred VTF and VTA

Here is the earlier set, you can hear for yourself.

Can I ask how VTF is changed? Lower or higher?

in this case he increased to 2.5 for the improvement but adjusted VTA at the same time. You can PM Cmchan.

Interesting. I had VTF 2.5g initially. But lower to 2g and in my system 2g is better.

I think his important point was to adjust VTA while changing VTF

I bought soul - went with SS PSU vs tubes with allnic H10,000
Auioabe has the Dava with Allnic 8000 phono you can check notes with him.

Happy to welcome my next DaVa to the collection. A dual mono, 2 x 0,2 mV, 2 x 8,5 ohm and 3,5 gr VTF that probably will be mounted in my FR64s.

A nice looking black beauty that comes with a stylus guard fitted by Darius.

He also attached a second stylus guard for my FC-A1.

I have received a few pictures of the new arm I have on order for the DaVa mono. It is a Reed 2B, modified by Reed, to match the specs of the DaVa, including internal wiring for the field coil and increased eff. mass by the use of a bronze ring inside the arm wand.

Hopefully it will arrive before christmas.

As with all things hifi, it’s complicated.

I have not ordered it as a single new purchase, but it is part of a trade in of my old Reed 3P. The danish distributor handled everything and communicated with Reed. I just gave him the details of the DaVa and told him what finnish, length and arm material I wanted. Reed then came up with the solution of increasing the mass and having the field coil wires run inside the arm. The whole thing set me back 10k dkk as part of the trade in.
