Digital or analog? Breuninger says... and asks what says you?

---High rez audio downloading, is digital right? :b

* I've heard that Cat Stevens - Tea for the Tillerman in high rez (download) sounds very good.
...So is the remastered LP and the SACD.

The founders are digiphiles, so I think you are safe.

Don't clean records very much, don't care about noise that much, enjoy listening to AAC mac mini server with Stax headsets.

To me, the noise reminds me that the beast is alive, breathing and operating. There are tolerable levels of noise I don't mind trading for musical and tonal bliss.

No wonder people accuse audiophiles of not going to live music. There is always wheezing, sneezing, farting, yelling, phone ringing etc.etc. and a constant din from halls, wind, crowds etc. None of that perfect black silence that certain audiophiles seem to think is essential to the listening experience.

Records aren't expensive if you are willing to look for them, unless you want only recent releases.

Vinyl and tape are physical as well as electronic playback mediums and the physicality translates into musicality, IMHO.

Yes you're right and let"s not forget the most important thing, THE MUSIC.

On a good turntable that is properly setup, you can not hear surface noise...

I've heard probably hundreds of turntable setups over the years, most quite expensive and I'm sure many of them properly set-up, but I've never not heard surface noise, even when the 'table's owner swears there is none. I think there's a good filter some people have for blocking that noise, or possibly I'm imagining the noise (expectation bias). I'm not saying it's necessarily objectionable, but it's there.

after awhile you tune it out ....... :)

No rbbert, you are NOT imaginning the noise it's there, the only one's that are not hearing it is because they don't want to or it doesn't bother them plain and simple.

This reminds of the story of the Princess and the Pea..

But you agree that using the same LP sometimes it seems much more objectionable than in other setups?

The main correlation I've noticed (in a very unscientific manner) is that a properly set-up line contact stylus seems to have less noise than other options.

Just as the absence of noise doesn't equal the presence of music.

What is my attitude? Offering to let someone come over? I'm not that mean of a person. I have even been known to cook a steak for my friends that do come over. ;)

I highlighted the part that I was referring to:

"Some people just don't want to be challenged. They are content with their limited, ignorant world-view."

But even if you think I'm ignorant, limited and afraid to be challenged because I don't share your enthusiasm for high-end audio, I'll probably take the steak. :)

Music? Who listens to music? Test tones and sound effects, baby!

Very true because what's music for some may not be for others, personaly i love Steve Roach's music but for some even if he as over 100 albums they don't consider his style as MUSIC.

Hey Andre! You don't show as being banned on CAM???? If they did, then that's pretty lame.

Oh ok...I thought you were currently banned. Anyway, that still is a pretty lame excuse to institute a ban. Thanks for answering the question though!

Now back to the topic.

You know I kid Andre and those who have an aversion to analog, but in the end I don't really care. We're all in this for the pleasure that music provides and if you find a source that works for you and that you're happy with......that's all that matters. I live with both and I'm happy with it.

Same for me John but when some tell me that i'm not an audiophile because i don't have a turntable that's where i think i have the right to defend myself, i have NEVER said that turntables don't sound good what i do say is that MY preference is CDP playback that's it, my ban will be over on november 6th, i will then be using the PRIVATE MESSAGE only.
