Digital Props Part II

Mark, to bring the thread back on topic - the Boz Scaggs track might be from the KBCO Live at Studio C 20th Anniversary disc.

Interesting Gary. Who ever recorded it did a great job. Is there any info about the KBCO disc that details how it was recorded?

If it's my thread, I don't really care as long as the discussion is meaningful.

I'm with you, Mark. I think thread drift...even when it just veers to silly...is an honorable internet tradition. Some of the best online discussion I've had was under thread titles that bore no resemblance to the discussion.

Maybe when Steve returns he can ask Grellman; if I'm not mistaken he was the original source of that disc.

Being a radio station, there was probably little processing going on - so you get this cleanness from a straight mike feed. Check the streaming version out here:

Doesn't that tell you everything: I'm looking at this business of reverse engineering mad levels of compression, and just perusing the "pro" forums it's very disturbing to see how deeply embedded this sickness of fiddling with the sound every which way you can has become. If the "pro" has a knob that allows him to do something then, by gum, he'd better use it, get his money's worth!!

Methinks you're not on pro forums, Frank, but home studio hobbyist forums. Got a few examples of where you're getting these impressions?

Yeah, you're probably right, Tim, just letting off a bit of steam: but listening to the real deal, actual commercial recordings of the current ilk, tells me that many people being paid for doing this sort of thing are not too far off a type of craziness in their way of thinking, irrespective of what they say in forums ...
