Music.....ahhhh.

and fine audio and music loving friends.

Friday night I had the privilege of hosting Chad Kassem (owner of Acoustic Sounds) for a listening session in my room. Chad, his wife Lydia, and a local Photographer/Audiophile friend of theirs met me for dinner first which was great. then on to my room where we listened to vinyl and tape for 3 hours. Chad knows his music; wow. and his photographer friend has done a fair amount of musical events including lots of stuff in Kansas for Chad. and he has a 12,000 pressing vinyl collection himself.

we did not really talk audio gear or really anything but music. pop. jazz, blues, and classical. it was all vinyl except for one tape; side 2 of Abbey Road.....which was awesome (it always is).

this is the best of our hobby.

the night ended too soon. I'm still under the spell of the vibe.

my thanks to Chad for sharing his time with me.

and to tell you the kind of guy Chad is; he texted me 3 times yesterday asking about the best record stores in downtown Seattle.

That's what it's all about Mike. The love of music. Always glad to hear of good times like this. ;)

Only 3 hours? :D

Tom

That's wonderful, Mike! Hope the pictures will be available to share.:p
Sonny and I will be hosting some WBF folks next weekend.

I did not take any pictures. however; Chad did take some pics and said he would be posting them on his Facebook page 'soon'. so that would be where they might happen. if I get a link or something I will post it. I'm not a Facebook guy as much as I can avoid it.

Thanks, Mike...same here -- neither Facebook nor Twitter!

Hello Mike and good afternoon to you sir. Has Chad given any thought to joining in on the discussions here at the WBF? His experience with music would IMO be most welcome here.

Tom

honestly; that never came up.

over the almost 20 years I've known Chad he has called me a number of times to discuss various things; and certainly many of us know him at least a little and are his customers. but I think I've only seen him post on a forum once and that was on the Vinyl Asylum on audioasylum some years ago.

I'd recommend that whatever he is doing he should just keep on doing. it's working very well for him.

he is a fun guy to hang with and I thoroughly enjoyed it. if someone has to be the leading distributor of audiophile software I'm glad it's him. he is one of us.

He is always welcome sir. Thanks.

Tom

Wow! That must have been a fun evening Mike, talking music and listening to it.

I feel so humbled knowing so little, but am positively excited that I can learn so much more in the music world.

Thanks for sharing, I too would be keen to see photos if they ever turn up elsewhere.

That is a wonderful evening, Mike!

Mike, I think this visit is yet one more testament to how well you are respected by those who love music, and it is another example of being a gracious host sharing your system with others. Chad, and so many past visitors, are fortunate to have spent time listening to music on your system. These are the kinds of evenings that this hobby should be all about. It great to read about this stuff.

Al M. and I just had a wonderful visit to MadFloyd's listening room to hear his incredible system. These are the kinds of trips I look forward to for days, I always learn something new, about the gear and music, and I reflect on them for days afterwards.

Your listening room seems to be a must-visit for any serious music lover in the Pacific Northwest.

Peter,

thank you for the kind words.

i just do what I enjoy doing and what others such as your own group does at Ian's room.

it seems like when I get together with like minded friends to listen, my enjoyment multiplies by other's enjoyment. we reflect the vibe we feel together. not so surprising in the human experience, but never taken for granted none the less.

the sum being greater than the parts for sure.

hopefully you can visit me at some future time.

. . .

This is beautifully stated, and I agree completely!
